Train passenger wearing medical mask arrested after he’s caught on video wiping spit on handrail

A passenger on a train in Belgium has been arrested following a disturbing act that was caught on a now-viral video.

The unidentified man was seen in video footage on a crowded train wearing a surgical mask and holding a beer as he proceeded to lick his fingers and then wipe them on a pole inside the rail car.

“[Look at this person] who is surely contaminated with coronavirus is doing to the bars of public transport! Don’t touch the bars anymore!” a translation of the caption on Twitter read with the posted video, which did not relate any information about who filmed the scene or what prompted the recording.

The passenger was standing on the ride with beer bottle in hand when he pulled down his protective mask, inserted his fingers into his mouth and then clearly wiped his saliva-covered digits on the vertical pole used by the public.

Repulsed viewers were outraged and the video led to the man being arrested by Belgian police a short time later. The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company issued a tweet to reassure passengers that “our metros are cleaned every day.”

“The man (intoxicated) was arrested by the police and our security service,” the tweet read. “The subway train was withdrawn from service to be disinfected.”

With over 300 cases and one death from coronavirus reported in Belgium, viewers of the video slammed the passenger as “disgusting” and called for “criminal punishment” for his vile act amid what the World Health Organization just called a pandemic.

Virus-related deaths were reported for the first time Wednesday by Belgium, Bulgaria and Albania.

“We have rung the alarm bell loud and clear,” WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday, according to Australia’s news site, news.com.au.

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, originated in Wuhan Province, China in December 2019 and has infected over 130,000 people across the globe. Over 4,700 people have died due to the illness which affects the elderly and more vulnerable members of the population.

In the U.S., medical professionals, state health departments, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend risk prevention measures as well as information on treatment and testing.

President Donald Trump delivered a speech to the nation on Wednesday announcing a travel ban which, almost immediately was attacked by liberals who ignored the facts, and his words, to spread more panic.

As advisories continue to recommend preventative actions to avoid getting sick, shocking behavior like that of the train passenger in Belgium remind people that not everyone follows directions.

Social media users reacted in horror to the incident, while some questioned the video itself.
