Sanders slams Hillary with wake-up call at Fox town hall: She wants to relive 2016, it’s 2020 now

Sen. Bernie Sanders called out his 2020 Democratic rival Joe Biden as a friend to “crooks” during a Fox News town hall where he also essentially told Hillary Clinton to move on.

The Vermont lawmaker and 2020 hopeful accused the former vice president of having “bailed out the crooks on Wall Street who nearly destroyed our economy 12 years ago” and saved some of his arrows for his former 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton.

“I’m not here to criticize Joe, but to say that I think the American people in this incredibly complicated and difficult moment in our history, are entitled to thoughtful answers to the crises we face,” Sanders told moderators Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier at a Fox News town hall in Michigan on Monday.

But he refused to comment on Biden’s mental fitness for office, saying he would not join attacks against his opponent on whether his many infamous gaffes and flubs along the campaign trail raise a red flag about his ability to carry out his duties as commander-in-chief.

“I’m not gonna go to that level – that’s for people to decide,” the 78-year-old said. “I’m not going to be making personal attacks on Joe.”

He did remark on the brevity of Biden’s recent speeches at campaign events, saying, “I don’t know how you do that in seven minutes.”

But Sanders did have something to say about Clinton, speaking about the failed 2016 Democratic nominee after viewing a video clip of her claiming that “nobody likes” him.

“Bernie just drove me crazy. He was in Congress for years, years!,” she said in a clip from the Hulu documentary about her life. “Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, He got nothing done, he was a career politician, he did not work till he was like 41, and then he got elected to something.”

“That’s strong stuff. What’s your reaction?” MacCallum asked as the crowd booed the video clip.

“Unlike Secretary Clinton, I don’t want to relive 2016. We’re in 2020 now,” Sanders said in response.

“But, what I would say on a good day, is my wife likes me,” he said to audience applause.

“But also, if you guys look at some of the polling they do for United States senators, in most cases I turn out to be the most popular senator in the country,” he added.

Sanders spoke to one voter from Russia about what his “democratic socialism” would look like, calling the system in the former Soviet Union “authoritarian communism.”

He also gave a shout out to President Trump at one point.

“And last point, Donald Trump, I know he’s on the network a whole lot. Donald, you’re probably watching, how are you? Wanted to say hello to the president,” he joked.

“He’s actually having a news conference,” Baier said.

“I’m sure he’s watching Fox on the side. He’s addicted to your station,” Sanders replied.

While discussing the coronavirus outbreak, Sanders falsely accused Trump of saying people should go to work even if they feel sick.

“If you had to, would you close down the borders?” Baier asked.

“No,” an adamant Sanders replied.

Voters in six states head to the polls Tuesday as Biden currently leads the Democratic race with 664 to Sanders’s 573.
