A New Jersey gun owner was arrested in the Democrat-run state of New Jersey even though he had a permit for his firearm and his ammunition. New Jersey has among the strictest gun-control laws in the United States.
Roosevelt Twyne, who’s black, is a 25-year-old security guard. He was arrested by police during a traffic stop related to his tinted car windows.
During the stop, Twyne was erroneously accused of illegally carrying a firearm and being in possession of “hollow-point ammunition.” He uses both for his job as a security guard.
“He was arrested for the hollow-point ammunition,” Twyne’s attorney, Evan Nappen, told the Free Beacon. “Then they claimed he was transporting his handgun illegally. He had a permit to carry a handgun. The law makes it clear that it’s illegal to transport unless you are licensed, pursuant to Chapter 58. And that is precisely what a handgun carry permit is.”
Nappen said the ammunition his client was carrying was the same kind issued by his employer. “It’s lawful,” Nappen underscored. “It’s publicly announced as lawful because it is. It’s not hollow. It’s filled.”
This arrest spotlights the difficulties of navigating New Jersey’s new gun-control laws, which are among the toughest in the country. The incident also sparked renewed concerns about the Democratic Party’s plan to confiscate guns from legal gun owners across the United States.
Best-selling author Dinesh D’Souza recently sounded the alarm, saying the Left is openly embracing gun confiscation.
“This vindicates what the NRA has been warning from the outset,” D’Souza told Fox News in September 2019. “For many years, I thought the NRA was using a slippery-slope argument, which was essentially that once you start outlawing one type of weapon, you will then slowly proceed to outlawing the next type. And eventually, it becomes a kind of comprehensive confiscation.”

D’Souza continued: “But what’s interesting here is this is not even a slippery slope. There’s a whole group of people that from the outset want a comprehensive ban. It’s ultimately an all-out assault on the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is no less important than the First Amendment or the Fourth Amendment. So we should very zealously guard against these Constitutional rights being stripped away based upon some sort of pretext.”
What’s ironic about New Jersey police arresting a legal gun owner is that they’re not allowed to arrest illegal aliens who are breaking federal immigration laws by being in the country unlawfully.
New Jersey is essentially a Sanctuary State because police are not allowed to stop, question, arrest, search, or detain anyone based on their actual or suspected immigration status.
Matthew Albence, the acting director of ICE, said New Jersey’s lax approach to illegal immigration is endangering public safety (it is any wonder that people want to own guns to protect themselves, since the police aren’t allowed to?).
“This directive shields certain criminal aliens, creating a state-sanctioned haven for those seeking to evade federal authorities — all at the expense of the safety and security of the very people the New Jersey Attorney General is charged with protecting,” Albence said.
