Here’s how AOC coaches illegal immigrants to fill out 2020 census

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sparked outrage after encouraging illegal immigrants to fill out the 2020 census because everyone is “to be counted.”

The New York Democrat was slammed for “anti-American” language after her remarks made during an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Thursday.

“We’re all going to get mailed a prompt to fill out the census in the next two weeks or so,” she said. “And so I think what’s really important is that we all fill this out. It happens once every 10 years.”

She explained that everyone, regardless of their immigration status, was to be counted in the survey mandated by the U.S. Constitution and conducted every 10 years since 1790.

“Every single person, no matter your documentation status, no matter your housing status, income, etc., is to be counted,” Ocasio-Cortez said, assuring would-be participants that the data is “completely confidential.”

“So don’t worry if you’re having a creative living situation, it’s not going to be told to your landlord or anything crazy like that,” she said.

According to the Census Bureau website, the “Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year” and “determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.” The site also assures that “private information is never published and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court.”

Ocasio-Cortez recently shared a video from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office with her more than 6.4 million Twitter followers, that featured her speaking with “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda,

“The census is a count of everyone in the United States, no matter your immigration status. The census count is how our communities get billions of dollars for programs that we all rely on,” she said in the public service announcement.

President Trump last year accused Democrats of trying to “conceal the number of illegal aliens in our midst.”

“This is part of a broader left-wing effort to erode the rights of the American citizen,” he said last July in a White House speech. “And it’s very unfair to our country.”

The Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration’s efforts to include a question on citizenship in the census, claiming it would deter people from filling out the form, despite the fact that the question did not address the legality of someone’s immigration status.

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks on the late-night talk show set off one New York lawmaker.

“Illegal aliens should not be counted equally to law-abiding Americans and legal immigrants – plain and simple,” Assemblyman Mike LiPetri, a 29-year-old freshman Republican, said in a statement.

“When radical left-wing politicians like AOC make such statements, she sends a message to all Americans and legal immigrants that it doesn’t matter if you work hard and play by the rules, we’re going to prioritize criminals and those here illegally over you,” the lawmaker, who is running to replace retiring Rep. Peter King in Congress, added.

The census is set to begin on March 12, and the results will determine if 10 states, including Ocasio-Cortez’s home state of New York, either lose or gain congressional districts.

Twitter users blasted Ocasio-Cortez following her appearance on the late-night talk show Friday.
