Ivanka Trump and her brother Donald Trump Jr. exchanged some love and support on social media following news that she officially become a registered Republican.

The first daughter, who spoke for the first time at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference last week, revealed in an interview published Monday in The New York Times that she had officially made the switch after years of voting for and supporting Democrats.

While she made the change just ahead of the midterm elections in October 2018, according to the New York City Board of Elections, the president’s eldest daughter declared herself a “proud Trump Republican”  in the interview which her brother cited in a tweet Monday.

“So proud of my sister @ivankaTrump! She’s absolutely killing it,” he tweeted. “Our family is going to fight like hell to help Keep America Great this November!”

“Love you big brother!” the mother of three and senior adviser to the president tweeted back.

“I’m not going to speculate on the projections other people have cast upon me,” Ivanka Trump told The Times. “In areas outside of my portfolio, I tend to agree more with the more conservative viewpoint more often than where the Democrats are today.”

She explained that her change in party status would allow her to vote for her father in New York’s closed state primary, something she was unable to do in 2016 because of missing the deadline to register. Her husband and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner revealed that he had changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican late last year.

“I was not a Republican,” he told reporters recently. “Now I’m a Republican. I think the Republican Party is growing now that people like me feel comfortable being part of it.”

Noting that her father “broadened the reach of the Republican Party,” which she noted “is really important to me,” Trump is set to play a more visible role in the 2020 reelection campaign following her first three years in a new role that many moderate Democrats thought she would use to press the president on issues like climate change, pay equity and parental leave.

According to The Times:

Most Democrats were skeptical of Ms. Trump from the beginning. But the fact that she lobbied her father to keep the United States in the Paris climate accords and helped kill a proposed executive order that would have scrapped Obama-era L.G.B.T. protections in the opening days of the administration gave her a slightly different image than the rest of the Trump family.

The 38-year-old businesswoman, who launched her own clothing and jewelry brand as well as served as an executive vice president of the family-owned Trump Organization, touted her fundraising abilities in her interview. She was confident in her ability to out-raise top Democratic candidates with just a one-hour breakfast meeting, noting the time she raised $2 million in 45 minutes.

“It was pretty record-shattering,” she said.

While she has opted to lay low during many of the controversies that have surrounded her father, Trump has recently become more vocal in defense of her father and his administration, lashing out following the end of the impeachment sham.

“This factional fever and incoherent, ill-conceived process has finally ended and the President has rightfully been acquitted,” she tweeted. “POTUS has accomplished so much and is just getting started. The best is yet to come!”

The first daughter did not divulge to The New York Times which of the 2020 Democratic candidates she would want to see her father face in November, noting that they are each “very unique.”

“I definitely wouldn’t tell you that,” she said, but added that she felt “good about our chances of beating all of them.”
