President Trump continued his scathing criticism of the “fake news media” in the wake of the coronavirus threat by targeting a New York Times op-ed columnist.

The president slammed Gail Collins during an interview in response to her column, published last week which was titled, “Let’s Call It Trumpvirus,” calling her out as a “stone-cold loser” for her criticism of his administration’s response to the coronavirus.

Collins declared that “if you’re feeling awful, you know who to blame” in the column that was widely slammed for her attacks on the president and his unsatisfactory response to the health emergency, calling Vice President Mike Pence the “Coronavirus Czar” while claiming Trump’s predecessor in the White House did a better job.

“Barack Obama used to have special epidemic-watching groups just in case this kind of crisis developed,” Collins wrote.

For the record, former President Obama in 2009 finally declared an emergency six months after millions of Americans had been infected and more than 1,000 had died from the H1N1 virus.

Collins blasted Trump’s press conference last week to address the coronavirus outbreak, mocking his appointees, including acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, acting Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, and the vice president for not having the credibility or experience.

In an interview with Sinclair’s Eric Bolling which is set to air Monday, Trump leveled a sharp rebuke of Collins, whom he said he has known for a long time.

“You know, a stone-cold loser,” he told Bolling while he was in South Carolina for a rally.

“This woman is just a woman that is just so untalented, and they want to write that in the New York Times, I call it the failing New York Times. Before I ran, that paper was going out of business and it will go out someday, let’s say in five years,” he said.

The president echoed his previous assurances that the U.S. is prepared to handle the virus outbreak and would be “fine” through it all.

“But the country is doing really well, we got hit with this unexpected situation from China and it will all work out, it will all work out fine,” he said before motioning on to discuss the Democratic presidential primary.

Trump blasted Democrats for politicizing the coronavirus outbreak during his press conference at the White House last week with officials of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He specifically called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as “incompetent” and accused her of not caring about the American people.

He also addressed fears about a larger outbreak of the virus in the U.S., assuring Americans that aggressive measures he ordered at the outset have minimized the nation’s exposure so far even as there have been more than 81,000 cases reported around the world, mainly in China.

The president called out the liberal media as the “enemy of the people” in a tweet in Sunday which followed sharp criticism he had leveled for the hyped and inaccurate reporting on the coronavirus threat and his administration’s actions.

Last week, the president blasted MSNBC and CNN for “doing everything” to make the coronavirus “look as bad as possible.”

He targeted CNN as a “very disreputable network” while speaking with reporters, saying the network is “doing everything they can to instill fear in people and I think it’s ridiculous.”

Pence told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview this weekend that “we could have more sad news” related to the  COVID-19 outbreak.  The number of cases identified positively as coronavirus rose to at least 76 in the U.S. as of Sunday, as New York City, Tampa Bay in Florida and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, have identified persons who have tested positive.
