Longtime MSNBC host Chris Matthews may want to start polishing up his resume, because on Friday he committed his third major faux pas in less than seven days by mistaking one black man for another. In the oft-used words of the president: “Not good.”
He specifically mistook Sen. Lindsey Graham’s primary challenger, a South Carolina Democrat by the name of Jaime Harrison, for Republican Sen. Tim Scott.
As he was speaking on a panel that included Harrison, a clip appeared on the screen of Scott standing by Graham. After one of his fellow panelists made some remarks about Sen. Bernie Sanders’ polling performance in California, Matthews committed his third faux pas.
“Jaime, I see you standing next to the guy you’re going to beat right there, maybe, maybe, maybe, Lindsey Graham,” he said to Harrison.
*facepalm*

It took several seconds of Matthews’ fellow panelists telling him the guy standing by Graham was Scott for him to finally realize his error.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Big mistake. Mistaken identity, sir. Sorry,” he finally said.
Big mistake indeed. As of Saturday morning, the “big mistake” had gone “bigly” viral, attracting attention from both blue checkmark notables and everyday Americans alike.

Chris Matthews confused @harrisonjaime, who is a black Democrat running against Lindsey Graham, for Tim Scott, the black Republican US Senator from South Carolina
This is very awkward pic.twitter.com/kMFITMjU4A

Wow. Chris Matthews mistook Sen. Tim Scott for Democrat Jamie Harrison at @realDonaldTrump’s rally. Van Jones tried to save Chris but was unsuccessful. This is a bad look for him & @MSNBC. He either doesn’t recognize a famous black Republican Senator or… pic.twitter.com/mql6xeB68t

Chris Matthews just said Jamie Harrison was hanging out with his opponent Lindsey Graham at a Trump rally. It was Tim Scott. Do all black people look the same, @HardballChris? pic.twitter.com/ICGhSWUz7k

Does Chris Matthews think that all black men look alike?

Matthews’ mistake seems to provide further proof to the belief that Democrats — and he certainly is a Democrat — take the black community for granted.
“A new survey of registered African American voters found that a significant number are disillusioned with the Democratic Party,” Politico reported earlier this week. “The survey, conducted by the political action committee BlackPAC, found that while black voters are largely supportive of the Democratic Party and align most with its values, more than half feel that the party is not paying close enough attention to the black community.”
“Democrats, they argue, grew too distracted by impeachment to focus on the issues that matter to black voters, putting them out of touch with the key bloc whose support they’ve relied on for decades.”
“This happens every election cycle. We hear from black voters a concern about whether Democrats are taking their votes for granted,” BlackPAC executive director Adrianne Shropshire reportedly said.
As for Matthews, he may also be taking his own career for granted. While he’s been with the network for decades, in recent weeks far-left activists have begun petitioning for his termination because of his incessant faux pas.
Late Wednesday, shortly after the conclusion of the tenth Democrats presidential primary debate, he made his second faux pas by questioning the validity of the lurid claim against candidate Michael Bloomberg that was once made by one of his former female employees.
While what he said wasn’t technically wrong, it infuriated radical left-wing feminists like Shaunna Thomas of UltraViolet, among others:
Alright, friends. Here’s the deal: @MSNBC needs to fire Chris Matthews. Today.

Matthews’ refusal to believe women, and history of sexual harassment, make it clear that he is not fit to continue to cover this election. MSNBC can and must do better, and they can start by firing Chris Matthews. (2/5)

Three days before this altercation, Matthews committed his first faux pas (of the week)Â by comparing non-establishment Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ impressive performance in the Nevada caucus to France’s surrender in the summer of 1940 to Nazi Germany.
That faux pas was so damaging that the host was forced to issue a public apology a couple of days later.
“Before getting into tonight’s news, I want to say something quite important and personal,” he said Monday. “As I watched the one-sided results of Saturday’s Democratic caucus in Nevada, I reached for an historical analogy and used a bad one.”
“Senator Sanders, I’m sorry for comparing anything from that tragic era in which so many suffered — especially the Jewish people — to an electoral result in which you were the well-deserved winner. This is going to be a hard-fought, heated campaign of ideas. And in the weeks and months ahead, I’ll strive to do a better job myself of elevating the political discussion.”

All this raises a vital question: How many licks does it take before an aging MSNBC host is faced with no other option but to resign? #FoodForThought
