Whopping 80 percent of artists say they’re bullied into silence for supporting conservative views, survey says

Eight out of 10 employees in the arts say they toil in an oppressive “culture of censorship” because they fear being bullied or ostracized for supporting conservative viewpoints.

The alarming revelations were uncovered in a damning survey of 500 artists and art workers by UK art magazine ArtsProfessional.

ArtsProfessional editor Amanda Parker said the survey reveals “a deep division between public perception and the reality of working in the arts and cultural sector.”

While most people think that the arts is inhabited exclusively by liberals, in reality, there are many who harbor conservative views, but hide it for fear of backlash. Parker said:

“Our survey shines a damning light on the coercion, bullying, intimidation and intolerance that is active among a community that thinks of itself as liberal, open-minded and equitable.

It’s a sad and timely indication of the suppressed hurt and anger felt by many, despite the loud and growing conversations about collaboration and inclusiveness.”

The artists and art workers surveyed said they felt intimidated into censoring their support for conservative political views because they’re terrified of “being professionally ostracized” or bullied.

The ArtsProfessional survey indicates that artists not only fear backlash from colleagues, but retribution from vindictive left-wing art patrons who finance their work.

“Nearly 70% of respondents said they would not criticize a funder for fear of jeopardizing future investment. And 40% said they had been subject to pressure from funders for speaking out.”

The survey also revealed examples of retribution from organizations against arts workers who spoke their minds, from marginalization and isolation to lost commissions, cancelled contracts and being “screamed, shouted at [and] bullied by my ex-boss.”

The art workers also kept silent about corruption within the art world, including multiple instances of sexual harassment and crooked financial practices.

This chilling “culture of censorship” in the arts isn’t surprising, since other related fields — like show business and the media — remain overwhelmingly left-wing.

In 2017, conservative street artist Sabo made headlines for slamming Hollywood and the entertainment industry. Sabo, the rare outspoken conservative in leftist Los Angeles, said being a conservative is the new counter-culture.

“Republicans are the new punk,” Sabo said. “I’m pretty much the only right-winger doing guerrilla art. I’m like Patient Zero, the first one doing this on our side.”

Sabo has made a name for himself by not giving a damn if he gets accepted by his leftist Hollywood comrades.

“I think leftism is a mental disorder,” Sabo said. “I truly believe I’m fighting the good fight.”

When President Trump got elected in 2016, many Hollywood celebrities threatened to move to Canada in protest. None did.

At the time, Sabo asked why leftist celebrities prefer Canada over nearby Mexico, and suggested that they were projecting their own racism onto Trump.

“Why the hell aren’t these people moving to Mexico?” Sabo asked. “Too many short, brown people for their liking down there? Not white enough?”

Sabo supports President Trump, but wasn’t always a fan. Like many people, he was initially put off by the brash billionaire.

He came around after realizing Trump — a true rebel — was not afraid to stand up for his beliefs, even if it meant the mainstream media mob would defame and ridicule him.

“The day I came to love Donald Trump was when I saw how hard he was kicking liberals in the teeth,” Sabo laughed.
