In a stunning revelation, all of the Democratic presidential candidates hesitated to admit that they’re concerned about having a socialist as their party’s nominee. After some slight dithering, Senator Amy Klobuchar finally confessed that she was worried.
The bizarre scene erupted at the Democratic primary debate when moderator George Stephanopoulos asked: “Is anyone else on the stage concerned about having a Democratic socialist at the top of the Democratic ticket?”
After an awkward silence, Senator Klobuchar raised her hand. Naturally, socialist senator Bernie Sanders bellowed, “I’m not!”

Earlier in the debate, former vice president Joe Biden said that having a socialist presidential candidate would hurt the Democrat Party in the general election. Specifically, Biden said President Trump will have a field day labeling the entire party as rabid communists.
“I think that’s the label the President is going to lay on everyone running with Bernie if he’s the nominee,” Biden said.
Klobuchar agreed, saying a socialist candidate would divide the Democrat Party and alienate mainstream American voters.
“Bernie and I work together all the time, but I think we are not going to be able to out-divide the divider-in-chief,” Klobuchar remarked. “I think we need someone to head up this ticket that actually brings people with her instead of shoving them out.”
Klobuchar continued making her case for a moderate Democratic candidate, saying they could win over Independents and liberal Republicans.
“[We need to be] able to bring in Independents, as well as moderate Republicans because there are so many of them out there that are looking for a candidate,” Klobuchar said. “Truthfully, Donald Trump’s worst nightmare is a candidate that will bring people in from the middle.”
Biden and Klobuchar join a growing chorus of Democrats who are alarmed by the radical socialist policies being championed by members of their own party.
Democrat Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Florida says she is “offended by this whole conversation about socialism.”

Murphy is a two-term congresswoman who calls herself a “proud capitalist.” Murphy, the first Vietnamese-American woman in Congress, says growing up in socialist Vietnam gave her firsthand experience of the failures and horrors of socialism.
“The idea that in the greatest democracy — the greatest capitalist system in the world — we’re having a casual conversation about socialism, offends me,” Murphy said.
In July 2019, Republican Senator Steve Daines introduced a resolution condemning socialism, a failed ideology that is being aggressively pushed by today’s “radical, socialist, far-left.”
“A radical, socialist, far-left movement is growing across this country. And it has taken root as the new voice of the Democratic Party,” Daines said. “Today we make a choice: freedom or socialism. I choose freedom.”

The resolution notes that: “Socialism inevitably leads to societal rot, resulting in devastation, economic poverty, and destruction.”
The three-page resolution concludes by asserting: “That the Senate acknowledges that Marxism and socialism are failed ideologies…and affirms that the United States should never be a socialist country.”
