Pelosi slams Mitch McConnell as a ‘rogue leader’ in fiery official statement to Trump acquittal

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi continued to burn bridges as she issued a statement slamming President Trump and Republicans after the Senate voted to acquit on articles of impeachment.

The California Democrat presented herself and Democrats as the true champions of the U.S. Constitution as she tore into the near party-line vote Wednesday, continuing her petty temper tantrum by calling Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a “cowardly” “rogue leader.”

“Today, the President and Senate Republicans have normalized lawlessness and rejected the system of checks and balances of our Constitution,” she dramatically declared in her statement.

“Our Founders put safeguards in the Constitution to protect against a rogue president. They never imagined that they would at the same time have a rogue leader in the Senate who would cowardly abandon his duty to uphold the Constitution,” she continued with a stunning lack of self-awareness.

Pelosi claimed that Trump is the “first President in history to face a bipartisan vote to convict him in the Senate,” apparently believing that Sen.Mitt Romney’s betrayal of his Republican colleagues made the final votes “bipartisan.”

Trump was acquitted Wednesday on the first article charging abuse of power in a vote of 52-48 and then a vote of 53-47 to acquit on the second article charging obstruction of Congress. Chief Justice John Roberts had barely finished slamming the gavel to end months of wasted time and taxpayer money than Democrats were condemning the process, the lawmakers, and anything else they could pin the blame on for their fiasco.

“The President will boast that he has been acquitted. There can be no acquittal without a trial, and there is no trial without witnesses, documents and evidence. By suppressing the evidence and rejecting the most basic elements of a fair judicial process, the Republican Senate made themselves willing accomplices to the President’s cover-up,” Pelosi claimed in her statement, singing a now-familiar song.

“The President has been impeached forever,” she declared again, repeating previous comments when she announced Trump would never truly be acquitted and when she smugly fist-bumped Bill Maher last month after claiming impeachment was a  “solemn,” “serious” and “sad” event.

“You are impeached forever,” she said on Maher’s HBO show. “No matter what the Senate does, it can never be erased.”

On Wednesday, Pelosi warned that Trump, who just delivered a highly-praised State of the Union address touting the greatness of America and its bright future, “remains an ongoing threat to American democracy.”

In his Senate floor speech Wednesday, McConnell took a shot at Pelosi and her now-infamous tearing up of Trump’s State of the Union speech.

Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz filed an ethics complaint against Pelosi for her stunt, suggesting she may have violated House rules and even broken the law when she ripped her copy of the president’s speech.

“She disgraced the House of Representatives, she embarrassed our country and she destroyed official records,” Gaetz told Fox News.

Meanwhile, McConnell seems unruffled by grandstanding theatrics by Pelosi and her Democrats. The GOP leader is already looking forward to senators returning to Washington next week and has lined up five judicial nominees for confirmation votes.
