Singer Beyonce and husband Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Carter) refused to stand for the national anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl.
The unpatriotic gesture simultaneously disrespected the United States and the comeback performance of troubled singer Demi Lovato, who made her first public appearance since her 2018 drug overdose.
A video shows Beyonce, Jay-Z, and their daughter Blue Ivy remaining seated while Lovato belted out a searing rendition of the national anthem.
Ironically, Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, recently signed a multi-year partnership with the NFL. As part of the partnership, Jay-Z has a say in the selection of artists for the Super Bowl. Great show of support, Jay!
It’s one thing for Beyonce and Jay-Z to diss the national anthem. It’s another to snub fellow entertainer Demi Lovato, who almost died of a drug overdose in July 2018.
Lovato has been open about her lifelong struggles with drug addiction, alcoholism, and suicidal thoughts. Demi won widespread praise for her comeback performance at the Super Bowl.
Trump supporters were thrilled that the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl by crushing the 49ers by a score of 31-20. The Chiefs are from Kansas City, Missouri — a state that President Trump won by 18.5 points in the 2016 election.
Beyonce previously praised unemployed kneeling quarterback Colin Kaepernick for refusing to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner.
“Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion — only hope to change the world for the better, to change perception, to change the way we treat each other – especially people of color,” Beyonce gushed in 2017.
The Twitter reaction to Beyonce and Jay-Z’s disrespect of the national anthem was swift and brutal.
Second-Amendment activist Andrew Pollack tweeted: “While thousands of proud Americans stood in allegiance for the National Anthem, Jay-Z and Beyonce sat in silence. America has no place for unpatriotic scum like these two. Kick them and Colin Kaepernick right down to Mexico!”

In 2016, Beyonce’s anti-police performance at the Super Bowl ignited volcanic backlash.
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani said Beyonce’s fawning tribute to the militant, anti-police Black Lives Matter movement was a disgrace.
“I think it was outrageous,” Giuliani said in 2016. “It was terrible. This is football, not Hollywood. I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack police officers who are the people who protect her and protect us.”
