Virginia gun ban ‘resisted in the streets’: NRA sends 1,000 30-round magazines to protesters at state capitol

A Republican congressional candidate in Virginia is standing firm in his fight against Democrat leaders in the state and their attack on the constitutionally protected right to bear arms.

Jason Roberge, who is running to represent Virginia’s 7th congressional district, spoke out against the Democrats who hold full control of state government, telling Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that they are seeking to pass gun control measures and take away citizens’ firearms “any way they can.”

Roberge appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” Tuesday to discuss the proposed measures and the intentionally vague language used in the bills, getting into a heated debate with Democrat Virginia state representative Mark Levine, who was, at one point, told by the Fox News host to “stop grandstanding” in his arguments in favor of the legislation.

Gun rights advocates have organized a “peaceful day to address our Legislature” next week to rally against the proposed gun control regulations which include universal background checks on gun sales, a “red flag” bill, and limits on gun sales.

Northam declared an emergency, however, to ban all firearms around the Capitol.

Billionaire and 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg has reportedly given $175,000 to the Democrat caucus in the Virginia state House to push legislators in the gun-grab initiatives.

Roberge declared his campaign is prepared to do “whatever it takes” to stop Democrats and the illegal laws they are trying to pass.

“Northam and his Michael Bloomberg funded allies in the House of Delegates have made it clear that our constitutionally protected right to bear arms is not only on the chopping block, but also the subject of a state powered Gestapo force looking to confiscate our firearms at whatever cost,” he shared on his campaign website.

“Governor Northam and his thugs think that residents of Old Dominion will allow his politically motivated left-wing goon squad to systematically track and intimidate law-abiding Virginians without a fight,” he added. “This could not be further from the truth.”

Roberge, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 2003 to 2009, and describes himself as “a constitutional originalist,” declared that the Second Amendment is “non-negotiable.”

“Political hacks and out-of-town billionaires cannot match up to the vigor and dedication that Virginians have in preserving our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We will not stand for a group of jack-booted thugs that are looking to disarm and degrade our constitution,” he said in the statement.

“I will fight these incursions on our liberty and freedom,” he added, noting the support for “the brave notion of resisting government-backed gun confiscation and registration.”

“Our campaign stands ready to do whatever it takes to stop the bastardization of our constitutional rights,” Roberge announced. “No surrender and no retreat, not now and not ever.”

The National Rifle Association shared that it would be giving out 1,000 30-round magazines in the state capitol as the protests were set against Northam and Democrats.
