CNN’s Erin Burnett rips into Warren: ‘Clearly leaked by team to CNN … why is she pumping brakes now?’

The Left is repeating the same mistakes it made in 2016 by angering Bernie Sanders supporters to such an extent where many might actually vote for President Trump.  In 2016, many on the Left who voted for Trump were furious Bernie supporters, who were enraged that the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton had rigged the primaries against Sanders.

CNN host Erin Burnett slammed Senator Elizabeth Warren for her abrupt reversal after her camp attacked Sanders as a sexist who supposedly said a woman could not win in 2020.

The day before yesterday’s Democratic primary debate, Warren co-signed that line of attack but has since backed off after her poll numbers cratered.

Burnett said: “Just 24 hours ago, she owned the story, saying, ‘I thought a woman could win; he disagreed.’ Pretty black-and-white. Warren had no problem with this story yesterday. It was clearly leaked by her team to CNN.”

Burnett continued: “It came out more than a year after the meeting. It came out on the eve of a debate. It’s pretty clear she knew about this. She sanctioned everything around it. Why is she pumping the brakes now, indicating that she doesn’t want to talk about this anymore?”

Democratic strategist Karen Dunn — a former campaign adviser to Hillary Clinton — responded: “Because this is probably the last thing she wants to talk about to Iowans about before they vote.”

Burnett retorted:  “This story came out yesterday (Jan. 13). It didn’t come out by accident. Four sources who know Elizabeth Warren and were familiar with the meeting [leaked the story to CNN]. At some point, she thought that was a good strategy. Bernie Sanders denied it and immediately accused her staff of lying and making the whole thing up. Now everyone is trying to act like they don’t want to talk about it.”

Erin Burnett speculated that Warren is backing off this lame line of attack because the ineffective strategy is imploding.

Burnett said: “Warren seems to be backing off this story — not backing off that it happened — but backing off wanting to discuss it as she loses momentum in Iowa. Back in September, she was leading the pack, at 22%. And that held for a while.”

Burnett added: “Now it’s down to 15% this week, down to fourth place. She’s still in the lead pack, but that is a drop. Is that a reason to play all of this with caution for her?”

Burnett is correct in pointing out that it’s a losing strategy for Warren to attack Sanders as a sexist. This is because even people who dislike Sanders do not believe that he’s a sexist.

Reminder: Once the Senate impeachment trial begins, both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will be forced to abandon the campaign trail (ahead of the crucial Iowa caucuses) to attend the trial. Excellent strategy, Dems.

So far, the New Year has started out disastrously for the Left.
