Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade raised eyebrows and sparked a debate when he seemed to veer from President Trump’s contention about Iran.
Kilmeade voiced his dissent on “Fox & Friends” Thursday as he called into question Trump’s assertion that Iran’s missile attack on a U.S. military base in Iraq was made possible by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, otherwise known as the Iran nuclear deal, which was signed in 2015 while former President Barack Obama was in office.

The co-hosts were discussing Trump’s address to the nation on Wednesday and his remarks about the agreement entered into by the Islamic Republic of Iran and a group of world powers, which the U.S. dropped out of in 2018.
The president urged other nations to “break away from the remnants of the Iran deal, or JCPOA, and we must all work together toward making a deal with Iran that makes the world a safer and more peaceful place.”
He also leveled stinging criticism of the Obama administration which he said laid the groundwork for Iran to fund its actions.
“Iran’s hostilities substantially increased after the foolish Iran nuclear deal was signed in 2013 and they were given $150 billion, not to mention $1.8 billion in cash,” he said.
“I don’t love bringing up the previous administration. Just like I didn’t like when President Obama kept bringing up President Bush,” Kilmeade told his co-hosts Thursday.
“Yeah, but it’s true,” Steve Doocy interjected.
“How do you know?” Kilmeade pushed back, calling out Obama’s criticism of the “dumb war.”
“As people are missing limbs and no longer can see, or missing legs and here it’s a ‘dumb war’ they lost their limbs in,” he complained as Doocy noted the $150 billion used to buy those weapons.
“Everybody knows that policy but you have got to bring people together as the president and to continue to take shots at President Obama three and a half years later doesn’t make any sense,” he declared.
“Because, Brian, I think he is trying to point out that Barack Obama’s policy of essentially what the Republicans call appeasement didn’t work,” Doocy said.
“And he’s also trying to point out the fact that we are not as dependent on them for oil and for energy because back then, we were more dependent on them and they were negotiating with us over and over and over with John Kerry trying to figure out how much money we were going to give Iran,” Ainsley Earhardt explained.
“We finally gave them $150 billion, not to mention the cash found on those shipping containers,” she added, referring to when Obama lifted economic sanctions against Iran, unfroze $150 billion in assets, and secretly airlifted $400 million in cash to Tehran.
Iran used the assets to beef up its military and stockpile weapons.

“So the president is just saying some of that money might have been used. We definitely used that money to help fund their government,” she added, saying some of that money might have been used in getting the weapons.

“That’s fine. But we all know that. It’s been 40 years of failed policies,” Kilmeade responded, suggesting that Trump could have said, instead, that “the Iranian deal was not something we are in favor of, this is where we are at right now, as opposed to getting everybody back into their corners to fight it out.”
Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz recently fired back at Obama’s former deputy national security adviser, Ben Rhodes, for his reaction to reports of Soleimani’s death.
Perhaps it would have been a better idea to send him $1.7 billion in unmarked bills, in pallets on planes in the dead of night, so he could kill more Americans? https://t.co/t5Mj2SMyq5

Cruz also asserted that the missiles Iran fired were paid for by the millions delivered by Obama.
“They literally flew $1.7 billion in cash, in unmarked bills on pallets in the dead of night, into Iran,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. in a very real sense, the missiles that we saw fired on U.S. servicemen and women tonight were paid for by the billions that the Obama administration flooded the ayatollah with.”
