President Donald Trump urged Americans to better “exemplify the teachings of Christ” in a Christmas message released on Wednesday.
The president and first lady Melania Trump sent their “warmest greetings to those celebrating Christmas in the United States and around the world” in a Christmas statement released by the White House on Wednesday.

“During this joyous time of year, we join a grateful Nation in thanking God for His abundant blessings and boundless love,” the president stated as he referred to a Bible passage on “the divine message from the first Christmas.”
“While the challenges that face our country are great, the bonds that unite us as Americans are much stronger. Together, we must strive to foster a culture of deeper understanding and respect—traits that exemplify the teachings of Christ,” Trump said.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

He gave a shout out to those who fought to secure the religious liberties enjoyed by Americans and thanked the “courageous men and women of our Armed Forces who continue to fight for our cherished freedoms.”
“As Commander in Chief, I salute them for their service and thank their family members for their shared sacrifice in this noble mission, especially during the holiday season,” he added.
The president and first lady also addressed the nation in a video holiday message calling for unity and respect, even as Trump faces a divided Congress standing on the edge of impeachment articles and a potential trial against him.
“At this sacred time of year, Christians celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and rejoice in his love for every person,” the president said in a video message released by the White House on Christmas Day.

“We give thanks for the millions of Americans who come together, to care for others with compassion, and bring the warmth and bliss of this holy season to our families, our friends, our neighbors, and to those in need,” Trump said.
“As we gather with loved ones this holiday, Americans across this land, are grateful for all the men and women in uniform who keep us safe — our military, our police and everyone in law enforcement,” the first lady added over photos and video clips playing which included Dayton, Ohio police officers who were honored at the White House in September for their response to the mass shooting in August.
Trump also offered a “special prayer” for members of the U.S. military.
“We say a special prayer for those military service members stationed far from home. And we renew our hope for peace among nations and joy to the world,” he said.
The president and his family celebrated Christmas at his Mar-a-Lago home and resort in Palm Beach, Florida where they arrived several days ahead of the holiday.

The couple attended Christmas Eve services at a local church and enjoyed a dinner party back at their home.
Trump concluded his video message to America with a final greeting.
“On behalf of our entire family,” Trump said, “we wish everyone a joyous and Merry Christmas and a very happy, happy new year.”
