President Donald Trump unloaded on James Comey following his admission that he was “wrong” in how he handled the investigation into Russian interference.
Trump seemed to suggest the former FBI director could see “years in jail” in a tweet on Sunday following an interview in which Comey had admitted his error in defending the bureau’s use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act process.
“So now Comey’s admitting he was wrong. Wow, but he’s only doing so because he got caught red handed. He was actually caught a long time ago,” the president tweeted, referring to the fired FBI chief’s comments to Fox News host Chris Wallace.
“So what are the consequences for his unlawful conduct. Could it be years in jail? Where are the apologies to me and others, Jim?” The president wondered in his tweet.

“I was overconfident in the procedures that the FBI and Justice had built over 20 years,” Comey told Wallace Sunday, just days after he smugly declared the report from the Justice Department’s inspector general had vindicated him. “I was over-confident in those because he’s right, there was real sloppiness.”

Comey was blasted for his previous victory lap in the fiery wake of the report from Inspector General Michael Horowitz who concluded that the FBI made “at least 17 significant errors or omissions” in the FISA warrants that were made from October 2016 to the summer of 2017. in an attempt to spy on former Trump aide Carter Page.
The fired FBI director, who headed up the agency when Trump entered office until he was fired in May 2017, called those errors “unfortunate.”
“Human beings make mistakes,” Comey wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post last week where he bashed Attorney General William Barr as someone who “owes the institution he leads, and the American people, an acknowledgment of the truth.”
But on Sunday. Comey admitted to Wallace that “I was overconfident, as director, in our procedures.”
Yet he still found a way to let his arrogance come through, reminding the Fox News host that Horowitz “did not find misconduct by FBI personnel, did not find political bias, did not find illegal conduct.”
“The IG says you should feel no vindication,” Wallace said at one point.
“Well maybe it depends upon how we understand the word,” Comey replied. “What I mean is the FBI was accused of treason, or illegal spying, of tapping Mr. Trump’s wires illegally, of opening an investigation without justification, of being a criminal conspiracy to defeat and then unseat a president. All of that was nonsense.”
Trump called out that “big credibility loss” in a separate tweet on Sunday.
As bad as the I.G. Report is for the FBI and others, and it is really bad, remember that I.G. Horowitz was appointed by Obama. There was tremendous bias and guilt exposed, so obvious, but Horowitz couldn’t get himself to say it. Big credibility loss. Obama knew everything!
