Greta Thunberg turns heads when she threatens to put world leaders ‘against the wall’

Wearing what appeared to be a mass-produced plastic raincoat, on Friday fanatical 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg promised her followers that they would one day force the world’s leaders to do their bidding, one way or another.

“Unfortunately, we probably already know the outcome,” she said at a climate change protest in Italy, referring to she and her acolytes’ efforts to persuade world leaders to jettison the fruits of Western civilization so that the Earth may be saved from doom.

“World leaders are still trying to run away from their responsibilities but we have to make sure they cannot do that. We will make sure that we put them against the wall and they will have to do their job to protect our futures.”

Listen to her full speech below:

The way in which she conveyed the point — namely the bit about putting world leaders “against the wall” — irked some because of its allegedly sinister undertones.

“‘Against the wall’ is fairly common jargon in revolutions, especially youthful revolutions, and the accepted translation means executions — lots and lots of executions, specifically firing squads, where the old leaders are permanently removed by fresh-faced revolutionaries,” the conservative news website Breitbart argues.

That’s certainly how legendary deceased author and satirist Douglas Adams used the phrase in the “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

“The Encyclopedia Galactica defines a robot as a mechanical apparatus designed to do the work of a man. The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation defines a robot as ‘Your Plastic Pal Who’s Fun to Be With.’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation as ‘a bunch of mindless jerks who’ll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,'” the book reads.

Other sources also seem to  define “against the wall” and its derivatives this way, including:

Urban Dictionary, which defines the slightly longer “first against the wall” phrase as referring “to an outgoing elite who will face the firing squads ‘when the revolution comes.'”

The Phrase Finder, which lists “up against the wall” as “a reference to execution by firing squad, in which the condemned person is stood against a wall and shot.”

The Free Dictionary, which defines “up against the wall” as, among other things, “an inextricable situation,” such as “someone facing execution by a firing squad.”

While it seems highly unlikely that Thunberg, a 16-year-old child, had been referencing executions when speaking of putting world leaders “against the wall,” her remarks nevertheless spurred concern from those troubled by her authoritarian tendencies and close ties to authoritarian political figures.

Case in point:

To be clear, there’s no evidence to suggest she was referencing executions. In fact, the teen grew up in Sweden, and it just so happens that the literal translation of the Swedish phrase “ställa mot väggen,” which means to hold someone accountable, is “set against the wall.” This could possibly explain her disconcerting choice of words.

But to be fair to her critics, she has allied herself with some highly disturbing political figures, including radical socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This is the same far-left politician who’s ranted at those beneath her that she’s the boss, demanded that the world roll back a century of technological innovations and made it clear she wants to redesign society into a Marxist utopia.

And it just so happens that the sort of Marxist utopias sought by Thunberg’s political allies have historically always gone hand in hand with executions …
