Fox News host Sean Hannity thanked viewers for record-breaking ratings as his show topped cable news for the third straight year.

Fox News celebrated its highest-rated primetime ever as 2019 comes to a close, leaving competitors in the dust and ranking “Hannity” as the most-watched cable news program, both in his time slot and overall, with 3.3 million viewers and 528,000 in the 25-54 demographic.

With 2.5 million viewers, Fox News earned its highest-rated year in primetime in its 23-year history, becoming the most-watched network in basic cable for the fourth consecutive year.  The network averaged a total of 2.5 million viewers in primetime and 1.4 million in total day among total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

“Once again, Fox News Channel’s team of leading journalists and opinion hosts have led the network to a record-breaking ratings year as the number one network in all of cable for the fourth consecutive year,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and Fox News Media President & Executive Editor Jay Wallace said in a joint statement.

“FNC continues to exert its dominance in cable television as the country experiences what may be one of the most fervent news cycles in history and we are proud to provide our audience with news and opinion they can trust across a variety of programming,” they added.

Nine of the top 15 cable news programs in total viewers and in the coveted 25-54 demo were Fox News shows, as “Tucker Carlson Tonight” came in as the second most-watched primetime show on cable news, with an average of 3 million nightly viewers and 509,000 in the 25-54 demo. MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” followed with an average of 2.8 million people nightly.

Rounding out the top five were “The Ingraham Angle,” which ranked fourth with 2.6 million viewers and fourth in the 25-54 demo with 420,000 and “The Five,” which came in fifth with an average of 2.5 million viewers and 392,000 in the 25-54 demo.

In the key demographic of adults age 25-54, “Hannity” dominated with an average of 528,000 viewers.

In contrast, MSNBC drew 1.7 million viewers in primetime while Trump-bashing CNN seemed to need life support with only 972,000 viewers. Behind 14 different programs on Fox News and nine on MSNBC, CNN’s most-watched show, “Cuomo Prime Time,” came in at number 24.

Fox News dominated the morning circuit as well, with “Fox & Friends” topping all cable news morning shows, averaging 1.5 million viewers.  MNSBC’s “Morning Joe” drew 1.1 million and CNN’s “New Day” averaged only 507,000.

In the network’s other political news programs, “Special Report with Bret Baier” averaged 2.2 million viewers while “The Story with Martha MacCallum” averaged 1.9 million viewers,

Amid a year filled with negative coverage of the president and his administration, and with a presidential election looming in 2020, CNN has seen its ratings consistently drop this year with a nearly three-year low in viewership just last week – in the midst of the Democrats hyped up impeachment hearings.

Averaging 643,000 prime-time viewers overall, CNN brought in 138,000 viewers in prime-time during that period while hitting a five-year low in the 25-54 demographic. During the same week, 1.3 million viewers tuned in to Fox News, with 2.2 million viewers in prime time.

Despite its non-stop coverage of the Democrats’ sham impeachment hearings, CNN let its bias show on Wednesday when the network refused to carry any of Wednesday’s hearing held by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and featured Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

Former White House press secretary Ari Fleisher noted that it was a “perfect example of how bias works.”
