Mike Pence: It’s not ‘a foregone conclusion; that Dems have the votes to impeach Trump

Vice President Mike Pence threw cold water on the notion President Trump will definitely be impeached in the Democrat-led House of Representatives, saying he’s not sure that Democrats have the votes to pass articles of impeachment.

“I don’t yet know what’s going to happen in the House,” Pence told Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro. “I know that Speaker Pelosi has announced articles of impeachment. But I served in the Congress for 12 years, and I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that the Democrats will be able to get the votes to pass articles of impeachment.”

The vice president explained that impeachment could fail because Democrats have not convinced the American people that President Trump has committed any impeachable offenses.

“I hear from people all over the country — the support for this president, the progress that we’ve made rebuilding our military, reviving this economy,” Pence said. “We announced seven million jobs created and 180 conservative judges on our federal courts. And when people look at the facts in this case, they can read the transcript and see the president did nothing wrong. I know the American people are going to let their voice be heard in the next two weeks. And when the voice of the American people strikes Capitol Hill, anything’s possible.”

Vice President Pence also rubbished Democrats’ allegations that Trump had pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden in exchange for U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

Pence explained:  “Witnesses that testified before the Democratic committee actually testified that the subject of investigations never came up before, during, or after my meeting with President Zelensky in Poland. What did we talk about was what President Trump asked me to ask about.”

“When [Trump] asked me to go to Poland to represent him [in September], he’d already scheduled a meeting with President Zelensky. The president sat me down and said, ‘Look, we are reviewing this aid, but I want to know what he’s doing about corruption.’

President Zelensky was literally elected in a landslide on an anti-corruption agenda. And the president said: ‘Find out what he’s doing on that. Check him out. See what you make of him on that.”

Both Ukraine’s president and foreign minister have repeatedly denied that Trump had pressured them to do anything.

Moreover, they said they were unaware that Trump had even considered withholding aid for any reason before it was reported in the media.

You can’t have a quid-pro-quo if one of the parties is not even aware of the condition being imposed on him in exchange for him to do something (you need an understanding between both parties for a legitimate tit-for-tat transaction).

Mike Pence also dismissed rumors that Nikki Haley might replace him on the 2020 ticket to improve Trump’s chances with women voters. The vice president confirmed that President Trump had asked him to be his running mate — and he happily accepted.

“I couldn’t be more proud to be vice president alongside President Donald Trump, and I am honored that he’s asked me to run with him again,” Pence said. “I never imagined I’d be able to be governor of my home state. And to be able to be here in the White House to be serving as vice president, and to be asked to run again with this president to continue to advance the agenda that we’ve been able to advance for this country, is a great honor.”

Meanwhile, Democrat Al Green suggested that President Trump must be impeached as punishment for America’s “original sin” of slavery.
