Rep. Adam Schiff was raked over the coals for being a “liar” as he, like other Democrats, was accused of spreading false information about President Trump cutting food assistance to “millions” of Americans.
The California Democrat was blasted, along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for obviously not reading before tweeting, sounding the alarm over the Trump administration’s plan to make cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The proposal, announced on Wednesday, could affect the benefits for about 750,000 people as the administration imposes stricter rules on states that issue waivers to recipients in order to bypass the employment requirement. An article in The New York Times reporting on the “tightening work requirements for food stamps” was cited by Schiff in a tweet Thursday denouncing the administration plan while accusing Trump of “seeking to kick millions of families and children off food assistance.”
Trump is seeking to kick millions of families and children off food assistance.
Meanwhile, he’s preparing to send another $14 billion to big agribusinesses to offset the damage from his trade war.
His values are clear: Welfare for corporations. Hunger for American families. https://t.co/v0VAR8ZC8X

But, as in the impeachment inquiry hearings he led, the House Intelligence Committee chairman spun a narrative without the facts.
The Times report he linked to in his tweet was no pat-on-the-back for the president but did clearly lay out that 700,000 people – not “millions” – would be off the SNAP program under the administration’s new rules. And those recipients are not “families and children” as he complained but, according to the proposal, are “able-bodied” or not caring for a child under 6 years old.
It only covers people 18-49 years old without dependent children If the area’s unemployment rate exceeds 6% ,no one is removed from the program.

Parents with children will not lose assistance, or the elderly.

From what I understand it’s single adults without children and you only have to have worked 3 months out of the past 3 years…. Aka get off your lazy ass and get a job.

According to the New York Times article:
Right now, in a state without a waiver, able-bodied adults without children cannot receive food stamps for more than three months during a 36-month period without working or participating in a work program. States can grant waivers to areas that have insufficient jobs or a 24-month average unemployment rate that is at least 20 percent above the national average.
Under the rule, effective April 1, 2020, an area eligible for a waiver would have to have a 24-month average unemployment rate that is not only 20 percent above the national average but also at least 6 percent.
Recent U.S. Department of Agriculture data showed that changes to the food stamp program and Trump’s economic policies reducing unemployment have led to 6.3 million people coming off of the government assistance program since February 2017.
Twitter users quickly schooled the Democrat and called him out for not even reading the article or the administration’s plan, which will take effect on April 1, 2020.
You. Are. A. Liar.
~It specifically excludes the disabled.
~It specifically excludes anyone under 18.
~It specifically excludes anyone with dependent children. Now, YOU explain why someone who is able bodied should not be required to work in exchange for the benefit. https://t.co/fnyNAp5Qqr

Only a putz like Schiff could butcher clearly articulated facts. Either no conscience or suffers from cognitive slippage and/or selective perception. Per WSJ, only an est of 688,000 able bodied, childless adults ages 18-49 will be affected.#thisguyneedsashrink

It requires people to work three months out of three years. Even members of Congress manage to do this.

But Schiff is not the only Democrat spreading the “fake news.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took a moment out of her impeachment parade to slam the “cynical new rule” that, again, would allegedly take away benefits from “millions” of Americans.
SNAP is our country’s most effective anti-hunger initiative. The USDA’s cynical new rule does nothing to close the income inequality gap and instead threatens to take food away from millions of Americans. House Democrats will not be silent. #HandsOffSNAP https://t.co/m8DDWqrZqo
— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) December 4, 2019
OMG you mean it will force people between the ages of 18 and 49 who are childless and not disabled to work! What a travesty 😛
— carolineeveningstorm (@eveningstorm1) December 4, 2019
Ocasio-Cortez was also torched on social media after claiming her family would have “just starved” if the proposed cuts were implemented when she was a child growing up in a family dependent on what was formerly known as “food stamps.”
My family relied on food stamps (EBT) when my dad died at 48.
I was a student. If this happened then, we might’ve just starved.
Now, many people will.
It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dissolving lifelines of those who need it most. https://t.co/WOrYvhfPj4
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 5, 2019
“It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dissolving lifelines of those who need it most,” the New York Democrat tweeted, accusing Republicans of catering to the rich.
A Republican candidate seeking a U.S. House seat from Illinois’ 14th Congressional District called out the freshman lawmaker in response, slamming her and her “radical, socialist crew.”
“Tax relief for hard working Americans is hardly a ‘freebie,’ Catalina Lauf, a 26-year-old legal immigrant from Guatemala whose father is a small business owner, wrote.
Create “freebies” for the rich @AOC? You and your radical, socialist crew believe the Forgotten men and women, every day middle-class Americans are the “rich”. Tax relief for hard working Americans is hardly a “freebie” ?
— Catalina Lauf (R IL-14) Candidate US Congress (@CatalinaLauf) December 6, 2019
Other rebukes were also hurled at Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter for spreading “fake news.”
Hey, AOC:
If you had actually read the new Trump Food Stamp Rule, you would know that it only applies to people between the ages of 18 & 49 who are childless and not disabled
It would NOT have affected your family then, and it won’t impact families now
Don’t spread fake news! https://t.co/5VGsXyjaku
— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) December 6, 2019
The rule applies to able-bodied adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who do not have dependents.
The rule wouldn’t apply to parents with minor children, the elderly, or disabled people.
— Heritage Foundation (@Heritage) December 6, 2019
Another viral-but-misleading tweet from AOC. The work requirement rule doesn’t affect parents, which she would have known had she read the story: “The USDA rule change affects people between the ages of 18 and 49 who are childless and not disabled.” https://t.co/1Dewzi5cTT

This woman is such a liar & fraud. She knows full well that Trump’s new food stamps policy only applies to people between the ages of 18 & 49 who are childless and not disabled. So it wouldn’t have affected her sob sorry.
She preys on the ignorant to stir up hatred & division— Melissa A. (@TheRightMelissa) December 6, 2019
You should read an article on this. And not Just @AOC propaganda.
This will affect able bodied adults with no dependents. The elderly, disabled and children will not lose anything.
Those in jeopardy of losing their benefits only have to work 20 hours a week to keep them.

I have the words now.
1. You didn’t read the regulations issued. I read them.
2. You’re too lazy or stupid to be in your job. Go back to mixology.— David Webb (@davidwebbshow) December 6, 2019
You’re very dishonest to Tweet this, since it isn’t true. You people always cry about Fake News but have no problem just blatantly lying, do you?
