Top Dems reportedly meet privately, worried impeachment probe not working to convince voters

Democrats are reportedly concerned that the public hearings in the impeachment circus targeting President Trump are not actually convincing Americans.

As Republicans celebrated the failure of this week’s show trial to live up to its much-touted blockbuster revelation of Trump’s alleged high crimes and misdemeanors, Democrats have secretly been admitting that impeachment seems unlikely, according to a CNN report.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson cited the CNN report Thursday, and the worries among top Democrats that their sham investigation and hearings will end up backfiring on them for 2020.

“According to a CNN report this afternoon, top Democrats secretly admit to one another this isn’t working. They’re not going to get Trump through impeachment hearings. They’re not convincing voters the president should be removed a year before the election,” he said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Sources told CNN that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her “top lieutenants” held a private meeting this week during which they expressed that they “were skeptical about the prospects of a dramatic shift in opinion even as public impeachment hearings began this week.”

Democrats have shifted their strategy by changing their rhetoric, swapping out accusations of quid pro quo in Trump’s July phone call with the Ukrainian president to referring to the request for the foreign government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter as “bribery.”

Democrats apparently think the American people are not smart enough to understand the concept without some help.

“Abuse of power is not necessarily a concept that most Americans run around thinking about,” Rep. Jim Himes told CNN.

“The point is we are all working to try to make a fairly unusual concept to most Americans — abuse of power — understandable,” the Connecticut Democrat who sits on the House Intelligence Committee said.

Pelosi grandly announced that the Democrats are seeking to oust the president as a matter of “patriotism” and their duty in “honoring our oaths of office and to uphold the constitution.”

But CNN reported that polling on the impeachment issue remains split as many Americans are not in favor of the pursuit by Democrats, a factor which could have major impacts on the 2020 elections.

Asked if there was enough evidence to impeach Trump, House Judiciary Chairman and New York Democrat Jerry Nadler said, “I’ll keep my mind open at the moment.”

Tucker Carlson called out the Democrats and the real motivation behind their purported patriotism.

“They are impeaching Trump for the benefit of the true believers who watch MSNBC in prime time, who think Chuck Todd is like a newsman,” he said.

“This is all a sham. It’s a variety show, staged for the benefit of the party’s donors and its activists. It’s not actually going to move votes,” Carlson contended. “And by the way, the sober Democrats… they know that. They also know that in the end, impeachment could wind up hurting them, hurting the Democratic Party, just like it hurt the Republican Party in 1998 when they impeached Bill Clinton for much clearer reasons than they are impeaching Donald Trump.”

He noted that the realization is having an impact on Democrats as “the establishment is basically doing less and less to conceal what they are really up to.”

Carlson cited a tweet from Bloomberg News declaring that the impeachment hearings exposed how Trump loyalists “wrested control of U.S. Policy from seasoned diplomats.”

“Diplomats don’t control foreign policy. They carry it out!” Carlson exclaimed. “Who controls foreign policy? Voters do. They control their country, in fact, through their elected officials. So it doesn’t matter if every single bureaucrat in the State Department disagreed with the president’s policy on Ukraine…. Their job is not to make policy, it’s to affect it, it’s to carry it out. They work for the president — all presidents.”

“They take orders from the elected person because that person was elected, and they weren’t. The president is the only person with power in the executive branch, that’s how democracies work,” Carlson concluded. “And that’s why in Washington, almost nobody still supports democracy.”
