Controversial Virginia Dem wins senate seat despite disturbing scandal-plagued history

While Democrats lead a sham impeachment investigation of President Trump and vilify his supporters, they celebrated control of both the Senate and the House in the Virginia General Assembly after this week’s election which rewarded a scandal-ridden lawmaker with a new position.

Joe Morrissey was elected to the Virginia state Senate, winning the senate seat for Virginia’s 16th District on Tuesday with 60 percent of the votes over Independent Waylin Ross, WSET reported. The 62-year-old Democrat’s win came despite controversies including disbarment and alleged inappropriate conduct with a client as well as jail time and a sex scandal involving an underage teen.

Morrissey pleaded guilty to having sex with his 17-year-old secretary when he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates just four years ago. He was 56 at the time when he began the relationship with  Myrna Pride, who was nearly four decades younger than him and worked as an intern in his law office.

According to Newsweek:

They began a sexual relationship that they both repeatedly denied, despite prosecutors possessing many of their alleged texts and sexting evidence.

This includes Morrissey bragging in all-caps to a buddy that he had sex with Pride on a conference room table, “AND THEN ON THE FLOOR FOR GOOD MEASURE!”

Meanwhile, Pride had texted a close friend about the alleged sexual encounter, worried because they had not used protection. Morrissey gave her $70 for a morning after pill, according to the graphic texts included in the plea agreement.

 

He was convicted after pleading guilty in 2014 to the delinquency of a minor as well as charges of indecent liberties with a minor, possession and distribution of child pornography and electric solicitation of a minor. As he served three months in jail, Pride, who went on to marry Morrissey, was already pregnant with their first child.

Amazingly, he ran in the special election to fill his own vacancy after resigning from his legislator seat in December 2014. In January 2015, he won that election to reclaim his seat – while still in prison.

In 2016, a woman who had been represented by Morrissey’s law firm had accused Morrissey of exposing himself to her and pressuring her for sex through graphic text messages., according to the Richmond-Times Dispatch. He denied the accusations while describing the texts as “flirtatious.”

Morrissey’s history reportedly includes being jailed or arrested five times, having his law license suspended two times and, as an attorney, was cited for contempt of court ten times, according to Newsweek.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit noted that his law license was revoked by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board in 2003 for “frequent episodes of unethical, contumacious, or otherwise inappropriate conduct.”

After having it reinstated, his license was again revoked in 2018 by the Virginia State Bar due to the criminal conviction over his conduct with Pride, whom he married after she gave birth to their second child. Though the couple now has three children together, Morrissey reportedly has a total of six children from four different women.

Twitter users slammed Virginia Democrats for electing Morrissey this week and turning a blind – and hypocritical – eye on the obvious.
