Doom predicted over razor close GOP governor’s loss, but Trump helped 5 of 6 win in Kentucky

It’s like there’s a general rule when it comes to election reporting: when a Democrat does well in high-profile races, the win is trendsetting, and when a Republican prevails, we move on to the next election.

Such is the case in Kentucky, where Andy Beshear, a Democrat whose father was also governor in the state, claimed victory in the governor’s race with a razor-tight lead over Republican incumbent Gov. Matt Bevin — Bevin has yet to concede in the contest.

The state does not have a process in place for automatic recounts, but candidates can pursue a vote recount or legal challenge, which Bevin will most likely do.

With President Trump having campaigned in Kentucky on Monday night, the liberal media will make the likely upset a referendum on the president, despite there being unique candidate problems with Bevin —  he was the least popular governor in the nation according to a July Morning Consult’s Q2 rankings, with a 56 percent disapproval rating, compared to 32 percent who approve.

Brad Parscale, Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, let it be known in a public statement that the president almost “dragged” Bevin across the finish line.

“President Trump’s rally helped five of six Kentucky Republicans win clear statewide victories, including Attorney General-elect Daniel Cameron, who will be the first black A.G. in Kentucky history and the first Republican to hold the office since 1948,” said Parscale in the release. “The president just about dragged Gov. Matt Bevin across the finish line, helping him run stronger than expected in what turned into a very close race at the end. A final outcome remains to be seen.”

Trump won by 30 points in Kentucky in 2016 and while considered a “deep red” state, there are more registered Democrats than Republicans.

As for the blue wave that America will hear so much about on Wednesday, the GOP swept all other key state-wide races.

Taking to Twitter late Tuesday, Trump acknowledged that there may be problems with Bevin while noting the other gains.

He tweeted: “Won 5 out of 6 elections in Kentucky, including 5 great candidates that I spoke for and introduced last night. [Bevin] picked up at least 15 points in last days, but perhaps not enough (Fake News will blame Trump!). Winning in Mississippi Governor race!”

For those hoping the race reflects a groundswell among voters to reject President Trump in 2020, Washington Examiner executive editor Philip Klein had a sobering reminder.

“In 2011, Beshear’s dad, also a Democrat, won the governor’s race by 20 points. The next year, Romney carried the state by 23 points,” he tweeted.

In other elections, Republicans held onto the governorship in Mississippi with ease.

“President Trump’s rally and endorsement in Mississippi undoubtedly had an impact and helped Governor-elect Tate Reeves nail down his victory,” Parscale told Fox News. “Governor Reeves will be a tremendous conservative leader for Mississippians in fighting for freedom and keeping taxes low. He will also be a key ally as 2020 approaches and President Trump continues building momentum for re-election.”

Democrats did have success Tuesday night in Virginia — more from Fox News:

Also on Tuesday, Virginia Democrats took control of the state Senate and state House, as the state continues its dramatic leftward shift. The GOP had a slim majority in each chamber going into Tuesday’s elections. […]  Virginia has been trending blue for years thanks to growth in more diverse, liberal suburbs and cities, and population declines in more rural, conservative areas.

Trump said at a Kentucky rally that the media would cover a GOP win as a “ho-hum” event, but would portray a Democrat win as a huge loss for the White House.

Parscale weighed in late Tuesday on that note.

“The networks are already full of crap with Kentucky, be honest!” he tweeted. “The Democrats nominated a moderate, who’s dad was a moderate, who didn’t talk about impeachment or Trump, and who acts like a Republican. Talk about Kentucky when an actual Democrat runs. #FakeNews.”

Back to his remark that the president almost “dragged” Bevin across the finish line, those eager to dance on the grave of Trump’s presidential run were eager to mock him for the suggestion.

This being the same crowd that reports on everything Trump-related from the worst-case scenario.
