President Donald Trump may have been born and raised in New York but he and his family will now be calling Florida home.
The president confirmed that he would be changing his permanent residence from Trump Tower in Manhattan to Mar-a-Lago, his Palm Beach resort, blaming New York’s political leaders for treating him “very badly” over the years despite the millions in taxes he has paid.

Reports on Friday indicated that the president had quietly filed documents with the Palm Beach County Circuit Court back in September to change his primary residence and Trump confirmed the change in a series of tweets on Thursday.
He indicated that the White House “is the place I have come to love and will stay for, hopefully, another 5 years,” but announced that “my family and I will be making Palm Beach, Florida, our Permanent Residence.”
He also revealed that the decision was not easy to make and that the Empire State and its people hold a special place in his heart.
“I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state,” he tweeted.

With ongoing investigations in New York into his personal and business finances, as well as a lawsuit seeking his tax returns, Trump’s relationships with state and city leaders have been contentious over the years. New York’s Democrat leaders celebrated the news of Trump’s residency change.
“Good riddance,” Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted. “He’s all yours Florida.”
Good riddance.
It’s not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway…
He’s all yours, Florida. https://t.co/9AX0q1aBkQ

“Don’t let the door hit you on the way out or whatever,” New York City Mayor and former 2020 presidential contender Bill de Blasio, tweeted.

He added another snarky tweet offering Florida residents his “deepest condolences.”

And while Democrats decry the financial and tax issues with Trump and his businesses, the residents of the city and state have been footing the bills for the ongoing investigations. Most recently, a new top lawyer for New York City, a Treasury Department official from the Clinton administration, announced he was making Trump his number one priority and target.
“The city and nation are facing a president that’s just tough on the most vulnerable and one of the things the department has been doing and I would like to advance is focusing on affirmative litigation,” Jim Johnson, new corporation counsel, said Thursday as he was introduced by de Blasio, according to the New York Post.
“The strategy … is not directed at him as a citizen or private property owners but it’s directed to policy,” he added. “We’re not about trying to exact revenge, this is about justice.”
Trump was born in Queens over seven decades ago and spent his whole life in New York where he grew to become the real estate mogul who declared his presidential candidacy in 2015 from his Fifth Avenue apartment building where he lived since 1983.

He has not spent much time at his New York residence during his time in office but has frequently made trips to the Florida resort, a national historic landmark that was built in the 1920s. Trump purchased the property in 1985 when he was married to Ivana Trump, whom he divorced in 1991.
News of Trump’s change of residency was predictably welcomed by the left.
Florida Man trying to do anything to avoid showing his taxes, even change his place of residence.

But Trump supporters held a different view, with some – like conservative commentator Candace Owens – even suggesting Trump do more.
Move Trump Tower too. The treatment @EricTrump gets despite the money the Trump organization invests is despicable.
Don’t just move the family— move the entire business.Let New York and California become what they fight for: socialism.#SocialismSucks https://t.co/jECY5ZIVto
