Believe it or not, former President Barack Obama was the voice of reason Tuesday during a discussion at the Obama Foundation Summit.
Explaining that the world is a complicated place and people are complex individuals, Obama had no use for “woke” virtue signaling and cancel culture, telling an audience at the Illinois Institute of Technology activists “should get over” their obsession with ideological purity tests, Fox News reported.
“This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically woke, and all that stuff, you should get over that quickly,” Obama said. “The world is messy. There are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws. People who you are fighting may love their kids, and share certain things with you.”
“One danger I see among young people, particularly on college campuses,” he continued, “I do get a sense sometimes now among certain young people — and this is accelerated by social media – there is this sense sometimes of the way of me making change is to be as judgmental as possible about other people, and that’s enough. Like, if I tweet or hashtag about how you didn’t do something right or use the wrong verb, then I can feel pretty good about myself, ‘cause man did you see how woke I was? I called you out.’
“That’s not activism. That’s not bringing about change,” Obama insisted. “If all you’re doing is casting stones, you’re probably not going to get that far. That’s easy to do.”
Of course, what Obama describes is the calling card of today’s progressive left, where intolerance of those who hold a different opinion is the order of the day. The nation has seen countless displays of this intolerance from self-righteous moral busybodies who feel justified in their actions.
They first label a person who may vote for President Donald Trump a Nazi, and then announce that Nazi’s should be punched in the face.
The former president is still very popular within the Democratic Party, but the more extreme wing of the party is not as thrilled with him because they believe he did not do enough to push their radical agenda — in reality, Obama was forced to accept that not everyone in the country is on board with their agenda.
His remarks this week may not help him much with this hard-left cabal.
Former first lady Michelle Obama also appeared at the summit and is still pushing a racially divisive theme, discussing “white flight” and how she believes white people are “still running” from minorities and specifically people of color.
“We were doing everything we were supposed to do – and better,” she recalled of her family moving to the South Side of Chicago. “But when we moved in, white families moved out.”
