President Trump blasted Chicago leaders and officials in a fiery speech before law enforcement, but his jab at actor Jussie Smollett earned him a huge reaction.
Trump blasted the “Empire” actor Monday as he spoke to the International Association of Chiefs of Police in an address that directed his anger at the leaders of the city, which he compared unfavorably to Afghanistan.

The president sparked rousing applause as he called out Smollett and the House impeachment effort against him as “scams,” but he drew hearty laughter from the police group with his take on the actor’s alleged hate crime.
“Under Johnson’s leadership, they certainly don’t protect people,” Trump said, in a blistering rebuke of the city’s superintendent of police, Eddie Johnson, who along with Mayor Lori Lightfoot, refused to attend the event, citing Chicago’s core values which he claimed Trump did not represent.

“You have the case of this wise guy Jussie Smollett who beat up – himself,” Trump continued, pausing for an effect that sparked laughter and applause from the audience.
“And he said, ‘MAGA country did it.’” the president continued, referring to the actor’s claims he was attacked in Chicago by two men wearing Trump-supporting MAGA hats.
“He said it’s a hate crime. It’s a hate crime, and it’s a scam. It is a real big scam just like the impeachment of your president is a scam,” Trump said to more applause.
“And then you look at what’s going on, Smollett is still trying to get away with it. He would have been better off if he paid his $100,000 bill,” he added, referring to the bill city officials hit Smollett with to cover the cost of investigating the staged hate crime.
The 36-year-old actor faced 16 charges for allegedly filing a false police report in January claiming two individuals attacked him on the street with a chemical substance and a noose. The charges were dropped against him in March but he was sued to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent on the case.
Ironically, the Chicago Police Superintendent who refused to attend Trump’s speech Monday also essentially labeled Smollett’s claims a scam earlier this year. Johnson had slammed the “hoax” as well as the city’s state attorney, Kim Foxx.
Trump’s short remarks on Smollett went a long way as social media reactions poured in.
President Trump is right — Jussie Smollett faked a hate crime — which is in fact a hate crime. Jussie should be facing federal charges.
