Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services are investigating the case of James Younger, a seven-year-old boy at the center of a custody battle between his mother, Anne Georgulas, and father, Jeff Younger. James’ mother claims he is transgender and needs to begin transitioning into a girl, while the boy’s father says these claims are entirely false.
“FYI the matter of 7 year old James Younger is being looked into by the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services,” Abbott tweeted on Wednesday night.

A Texas jury ruled against Jeff Younger this week and in favor of the boy’s mother who wants to start young James on puberty blockers to begin his transition into “Luna.”
The court decision sparked widespread backlash and the trending hashtag #ProtectJamesYounger. Helping to lead the charge was conservative writer Matt Walsh.

Walsh defended his part in the fight relating to an innocent minor who’s been thrust into the spotlight. He argued that the publicity the story received might be what helps ‘save him.’

To make matters more complicated, a video posted to Save James, a group working to raise donations and advocate for Jeff Younger’s battle for his son was posted. The footage reportedly shows James telling his father that he is a girl when he is with his mother because that’s what his mother tells him to do.
“You’re a boy, right?” asks Jeff Younger in the video.
“No, I’m a girl,” James replies.
“Who told you you’re a girl?” the father asks.
“Mommy,” says James.
James then confirms that his mother dresses him in female clothing and buys him things like hairbands and nail polish.
“And what does mommy tell you?” the father asks.
“She tells me I’m a girl,” James answers.
“My three-year-old son tells me — he’s at my home — he tells me that he’s a girl. And I had the presence of mind, thank goodness, to pull out my iPhone and videotape me asking him about that. And that was literally the first time that I really understood what was happening to my son,” Jeff Younger told “The Luke Macias Show” in an interview about the video.

Jeff Younger theorized that James’ mother was “only giving [James] love and affection if he acted like a girl,” and was “putting my son into time-outs and she would lock him in his room and say that monsters only eat boys.”
The new probe announced by the governor is certainly good news for Jeff Younger as the previous jury to rule on the case said he needed to affirm his son’s transgender identity and awarded Georgulas sole managing conservatorship of James and his twin brother Jude.
Many have argued that young James does not fit the criteria for gender dysphoria, the condition his mother claims he has, since he is not insistent about the fact that he is a girl. His father claims that when his son is with him he prefers to act as a boy.
Walt Heyer, a former transgender person and advocate for those who experience regret after transitioning, argued in a piece for The Federalist that James’ inconsistency is enough to doubt that he suffers from gender dysphoria.
“The fact that James changes gender identity depending on which parent is present makes the diagnosis of gender dysphoria both dubious and harmful,” Heyer says.
This is only the latest pushback in the transgender movement. Canadian “activist” Jessica Yaniv also recently lost a court battle where Yaniv was suing several beauticians for refusing to wax male genitalia. Rachel McKinnon, a transgender woman, has also received major pushback for a recent win of the 200-meter gold medal at the Masters Track Cycling World Championships. Donald Trump Jr. has theorized that allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports will destroy competition and fairness.
