Bed Bath & Beyond chain apologizes, stops selling black pumpkins after news station airs complaint

Everything is racist in 2019 America, including jack-o’-lanterns.

Thanks to a group of “journalists” in one New York state community, the retail chain Bed Bath & Beyond has been forced to stop selling black jack-o’-lanterns and issue an apology to Perpetually Offended™ grievance mongers.

This stunning fiasco began when a law firm in the town of Nyack purchased a set of black jack-o’-lanterns from the retail outlet and placed them outside for Halloween season. According to local station News 12 Westchester, outrage promptly ensued.

“The reaction from some community members led the Feerick, Nugent, MacCartney Law Offices to take the pumpkins down less than 48 hours after setting them out on the porch,” the station reported Monday.

It’s not clear how the station learned of the black jack-o’-lanterns.

“We understand that someone complained about them and so once we got word of that we immediately took them down,” Mary Marzolla, a partner at the law firm, said to the station, adding that the firm had never meant for anyone to be offended.

“We represent people of all colors and faiths, and we would never do anything to exclude anyone from any community,” she said.

Her associate Alak Shah, a man of color, seemed baffled at the fiasco.

It’s just nothing I take offense to personally,” he said to the station. “But since it did offend someone, we took proactive steps to take it down.”

Case closed then, right? Nope.

Instead of letting the matter rest, News 12 Westchester chose to broach the matter with Bed Bath & Beyond.

The store says they took action after we reached out to them but would not tell us if they’d received any other complaints,” the station confirmed.

Thanks to pressure from the “journalists,” the retail store chose to bow to the “mob.”

“This is a sensitive area and, though unintentional, we apologize for any offense caused. We have immediately removed the item from sale,” a spokesperson said in a statement to the Perpetually Offended™.

As of Wednesday morning, the item appeared to be gone from the retailer’s website. However, a few other potentially “problematic” items were discovered.

Not to mention these BLACK pillows:

It’s not clear why the “journalists” at News 12 Westchester have not yet approached Bed Bath & Beyond about these “problematic” items.

The “journalists” did, however, reach out to the NAACP, a scandalous organization comprised of Perpetually Offended™ grievance mongers who cry racism over almost everything.

“By now I would believe everyone [would] know that anything in Black face is offensive. … Equally as offensive is that a retail store would have such an item in [their] inventory for general purchase,” regional NAACP director Wilbur Aldridge said.

It’s not clear how a black pumpkin is in any way similar to a human being such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau choosing to wear blackface.

As for the public, their response has been to throw up their hands in exasperation and ask what the hell is going on in this country.

Observe:

This fiasco comes amid a push by the institutional left — i.e., liberals in academia, media, Hollywood — to sanitize Halloween by making it politically correct.

Over at the College of Charleston, for instance, school president Andrew Hsu penned a letter to students last week warning them against wearing a costume “that is insensitive to someone’s race, culture, gender or sexual identity.”

“Being respectful of all members of our campus community is the right thing to do, so when in doubt about your decision, err on the side of caution. Whether you intend to or not, your actions can cause harm to members of our community and lead to consequences from the College,” he reportedly wrote.

Costume ideas that have been deemed offensive by the institutional left include dressing up as a cowboy, Native American Indian, a border wall, as a Border Patrol agent, as really anything and everything that’s fun and makes Halloween what it is.
