Somehow, you just know Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., sees his latest proposal as a means to back into charging President Donald Trump with a crime.
Either way, given that many see the media as little more than the campaign arm of the Democrat Party, it comes as no surprise that this proposal is about protecting journalists.
The Democratic senator who lied about his service in Vietnam is proposing to make it a federal crime to threaten or attack reporters, ABC News reported.

“There is a segment of the population that feels an antipathy toward the press that they express verbally, in threats, and also, at the extreme, physically in direct attacks on the press,” Blumenthal said. “What we have to address is the continuing threat of physical violence, whether by guns or other means, against the press that may intimidate them in their vital news gathering operation.”
Never mind that making a threat of physical violence is already a crime.
Blumenthal announced Tuesday morning he was reintroducing his bill from last year that would make it a federal crime to attack or threaten “anyone doing fact gathering or news operations.”
The bill includes punishment of up to six years for any attack that leads to “serious bodily injury” of a news gatherer.
To conjure up the appropriate outrage, the lawmaker mentioned the parody video of the church massacre scene from the 2014 film “Kingsman,” with President Trump’s head superimposed on the body of the star of that film, who goes on a rampage in “The Church of Fake News,” killing parishioners who are depicted as media outlets and political opponents, according to the Washington Examiner.
The anti-Trump media has been in a collective uproar over the cartoon-ish video ever since the New York Times reported on it this week.
In light of Blumenthal’s grandstanding, one thing is certain, the greatness of America is no better magnified than in the ability of this nation to endure the likes of those who walk the halls of Congress and still prosper.
