Jordan rebukes Hunter Biden’s defense: Americans knew there was corruption from the get-go

Rep. Jim Jordan believes Americans knew “from the get-go” that the business dealings involving former Vice President Joe Biden’s son were not “proper.”

The Ohio Republican spoke with “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, reacting to Hunter Biden breaking his silence and speaking out about his business dealings with companies in Ukraine and China.

“The American people knew right from the get-go this was wrong,” Jordan said, noting that the son of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate was probably “just upset that he got caught.”

“The American people understand fairness, they instinctively get this wasn’t fair, this wasn’t proper, this wasn’t right,” Jordan, a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees said.

In his first televised interview since the controversy surrounding his lucrative business relationships came under scrutiny, Biden told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that it was just “poor judgment” for him to have accepted the sweet deals afforded to him over the years.

“I know I did nothing wrong at all. Was it poor judgment to be in the middle of something that is a swamp in many ways? Yeah,” he said.

Ahead of the interview airing, Biden announced he would be stepping down from the board of a Chinese company and would not work for any foreign-owned companies if his father was to be elected president.

Jordan quipped that Biden winning the presidency was not really a possibility and went on to add that the younger Biden revealed in the interview “what the American people already understood when this story first broke.”

Fox News co-host Brian Kilmeade noted that Biden told ABC’s Amy Robach that he did not discuss the board seat at Burisma Holdings with his father except for one previously reported “brief exchange.” Joe Biden had said that he never spoke with his son about his business dealings.

“Look, we don’t know. We just know that this stuff smells,” Jordan responded.

“The whole arrangement with China, the billion dollars from the subsidiary bank of the Bank of China, this arrangement with Burisma, this company in the Ukraine where Hunter Biden –  had no experience, didn’t know the language, no experience in the energy sector and not an expert on Ukraine – gets this position,” the GOP lawmaker continued.

“I think the American people, again, they saw this for what it is. They know it smells. They know it’s wrong. And that’s the fact. So, look, let’s deal with the issues that the American people care about now,” he added, calling out Democrats who relentlessly pursue impeachment of President Trump while ignoring the real issues facing the nation.

“They are so focused on attacking the President, that’s all they want to do in this unfair process that they have begun,” Jordan said.

The congressman also reacted to Biden’s response in the interview about whether he believed his name was a factor in getting him the Burisma board position.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. Probably not, but I don’t think there is a lot of things that would have happened in my life if my last name wasn’t Biden,” he told Robach.

“Not probably not. Definitely not,” Jordan said.

“Again, this is so obvious,” he added. “Look, I guess he wanted to do the interview to talk about it, but again, I think everyone understood what took place here. We understood that as soon as we saw the fact that, with no experience, he was getting paid $50,000 a month.”

“Everyone got this, everyone knows it’s wrong. It is what it is,” Jordan said.
