Gutfeld argues ‘Mob Boss Trump’ an asset to US: ‘We want Donny Corleone rather than Donny Osmond’

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld defended President Trump’s strong negotiating skills in a discussion about his dealings with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The co-host of Fox News’ “The Five” argued that Trump’s “mafia boss” skills were an asset in dealings with world leaders during a panel discussion about the latest controversy over Trump’s July call with the Ukraine president in which he asked him to look into any potentially corrupt activities in the country involving former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

“I want to touch on the mafia line. Because in most industries you try to differentiate yourself between your competitors because these people are competing against each other. Yet, they all say the same thing. No originality. Why is that?” co-host Jesse Watters asked after playing a montage of video clips criticizing Trump’s so-called “mobster” tactics.

“This isn’t new. They were doing this, I think, two years ago, we had done a similar montage of the mafia smear,” Gutfeld noted.

“But the funniest thing about it is, it is really not a smear. The reason why Trump is often effective with world leaders is because he is like the mafia boss,” Gutfeld argued. “The fact is, if you want a negotiator, you would rather have Donny Corleone rather than Donny Osmond. Who would you rather have, a mafia don or like a greeter from Lowe’s,  which is what Joe Biden is?”

“As long as he doesn’t break the law,” guest co-host Geraldo Rivera interjected.

“That’s a good point,” Gutfeld agreed. “They are basing this mafia thing on things he says … Donald Trump is basically a dove who talks loud, right?”

“The thing that really bugs me though. This complaint, that they are actually preferring this complaint over the actual transcript,” he continued.

“And preferring the complaint over the transcript is like, you know, preferring to go to a Super Bowl party than the actual Super Bowl,” he added, contending that the criticism of Trump is “orchestrated.”

Rivera disagreed with Watters on a point that the scandal is “spiraling” out of control and perhaps the White House should not have released the transcript of the phone call.

“I’m not so sure it’s spiraling out of control …What is the high crime or misdemeanor that the president committed?” he asked. “Even with the allegations as stated, and I have read this thing over and over, there is no high crime or misdemeanor.”

“This is all second-hand smoke. These are not whistleblowers,” Rivera said.

“This is one highly-paid, highly connected media-type who may or may not have been a CIA guy at some point in his life. He is the one taking the information from all different people in the White House, including the West Wing filled with the vipers and snakes and backstabbers and rats,” he said, adding that “this is the Russia collusion illusion delusion 2.0.”

Rivera made similar remarks about the swamp-dwellers in an earlier appearance on “Fox & Friends” in which he lamented Trump’s tenure in office being marked “by snitches, and rats, and backstabbers.”

“It’s amazing how he functions at all,” Rivera had remarked, telling the Fox News hosts that he would love to beat the “rotten snitch” whistleblower.

“The Democrats don’t care,” Watters concluded on “The Five” segment. “They are still going to do the impeachment. I bet they do it in the House and they vote. It doesn’t matter if all the facts are on the president’s side. You can’t convince them.”
