The bizarre behavior of one CNN host Wednesday afternoon suggests that the network’s talking heads are unable to understand sarcasm.
During a bilateral meeting on Wednesday afternoon with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Donald Trump sarcastically said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “no longer the Speaker of the House.”
In response, known anti-Trump CNN host Brooke Baldwin grew as confused as a bee attempting to draw nectar from the sun.
“Last I checked, Nancy Pelosi is the speaker of the house. I have no idea what he was referencing there,” she said while analyzing the president’s remarks afterward.
Listen to the president’s remarks and Baldwin’s bizarre response below:

The president made the clearly sarcastic remark after being asked by a reporter whether the rumors were true that he’d begged Pelosi to let him off the hook and not pursue impeachment.
“Not at all,” he replied. “No. Look, she’s lost her way. She’s been taken over by the radical left. She may be a radical left herself, but she really has lost her way. I spoke to her about guns yesterday. She didn’t even know what I was talking about. She’s not interested in guns.”
According to an unconfirmed rumor, during a phone call Wednesday morning with Pelosi, the president allegedly begged her to not move forward with impeachment against him.
“Did it even come up or no?” the interviewer pressed.
Trump replied that the phone conversation had been about reforming gun laws, not impeachment, though according to him, Pelosi had displayed little interest in the topic.
“I’ll tell you what: Nancy Pelosi is not interested in guns and gun protection and gun safety,” he replied. “All she is thinking about is this. She’s been taken over by the radical left, the whole Democrat Party. And you take a look at what’s happening in the media today. The whole party is taken over by the left.”
His point was simple: While Pelosi is technically the speaker, she’s not the one dictating the party’s agenda anymore. Even The Washington Post, a far-left paper, has noted this before.
Comment @SpeakerPelosi?
Speaker in name only? Pelosi slammed for wilting in ‘fiery clutch’ of freshman Dems…‘clear who’s calling the shots’ https://t.co/O05HLaMgon— @HerbertReed on Parler (@Herbert_L_Reed) March 7, 2019
“The fiery clutch of freshman House Democrats — diverse, female and unapologetically outspoken — isn’t just making noise in Washington,” it wrote in a report back in March about the Democrat Party’s growing radical fringe.
“The new Democrats — symbolized by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — are pushing to change the way the nation’s capital does business, challenging the old guard in ways it’s not used to. And in some cases, the new Democrats are winning.”
In other words, it was as if Pelosi was wilting in the “fiery clutch” of these radical Democrats — who, as the evidence demonstrates, were clearly calling the shots and still are to this day.
“[T]hings like, as an example, drug pricing — getting drugs down — things like gun safety, infrastructure, the Democrats can’t talk about that because they’ve been taken over by a radical group of people,” Trump continued during the meeting Wednesday. “And Nancy Pelosi, as far as I’m concerned, unfortunately, she’s no longer the Speaker of the House.”
It was sarcasm, yet for some reason, it evaded not only Baldwin’s comprehension but the comprehension of countless other far-leftists:

Trump ends the press conference by saying Pelosi is no longer the Speaker of the House.
Don’t think that’s the way it works.

Pelosi is, in fact, still the speaker even though Trump tried to demote her over the impeachment inquiry: “As far as I’m concerned, she’s no longer the speaker of the House.”

Donald Trump delusionally announced today that Nancy Pelosi is “no longer the Speaker of the House.”
Trump may be onto something. If he and Pence are ousted, Nancy Pelosi will no longer be Speaker of the House – because she’ll be President of the United States.
— Palmer Report (@PalmerReport) September 25, 2019
its a real shame that Nancy Pelosi is no longer Speaker of the House, didn’t know a president could do that.

I think we all might need a refresher on the separation of powers after the whole @realDonaldTrump declaring #NancyPelosi “no longer the speaker of the house” https://t.co/nMDzcQQbWA

It’s unclear whether this inability to recognize the president’s sarcasm stems from the left’s childlike naivete and ignorance, or whether it’s part of a purposeful ploy to portray the president as demented.
What is clear is that the left’s complaints about the president’s sarcasm ultimately wound up making it look demented, not the president.
Like Washington Free Beacon writer David Rutz opined in a tweet, “It’s honestly worrisome that people who watch this man talk every day can’t tell he obviously meant that Pelosi doesn’t have control of her caucus, not that she’s literally not Speaker. Ridiculous pedantry or feigned ignorance.”
Look at the criticism below:

Those who have succumbed to the relentless propaganda machine have become incapable of discernment and no longer understand the nuances of communication. The media and political manipulators thrive on making mountains out of molehills.

They think he’s being literal when he’s being sarcastic, yet think there’s some weird hidden message when he states facts. It’s utter silliness.
— Marty Nozz (@martynozz) September 25, 2019
Yep. And then they quickly jump from this to a feigned incredulity of either 1. He’s not mentally stable” or 2. “He’s a pathological liar.” Tedious.

I love it when leftists disingenuously pretend that Trump isn’t speaking metaphorically.
They lose all grasp of sarcasm and innuendo to pile on with mockery of the most condescending sort. https://t.co/zsNBdNTIop

The replies to this tweet are absolutely pure gold from the left. They really think he’s serious. It’s called sarcasm, it’s Trump 101, they’re just too dumb to realize it. https://t.co/sRs7M0kx8s
