Well done: Dem Candidates fry 10,500 steaks in Iowa despite pushing a ‘meat tax’

In a move that is being described by some critics as yet another example of “pure Democrat hypocrisy,” on Saturday seventeen of this election’s Democrat presidential candidates held a “Steak Fry” in Iowa during which they cooked roughly 10,500 steaks for thousands of their fans.

“More than 11,000 attendees showed up for burgers and face time with 17 presidential candidates at the Democratic Polk County Steak Fry in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday,” CBS News reported. “Organizers grilled 10,500 steaks for attendees on Saturday, along with 1,000 vegan burgers.”

It looks like good old fun, right? Well, there’s a problem, though …

The problem is that Democrats have spent months lecturing the American people about the need for them to either stop eating or at least cut back their consumption of meat.

Take 2020 contender Sen. Kamala Harris. During a CNN-hosted town hall earlier this month, an audience member pointed out that some countries have modified their dietary guidelines to reduce red meat consumption because of its alleged effects on climate change.

“If elected…will you be supporting change in dietary guidelines, and then how will you plan on implementing the changes so that people effectively change their diets?” the audience member then asked.

“Yes,” Harris replied, adding that it must be “a real priority at the highest level of government” to address climate change in such a manner “because we have a problem in America.”

Yet she had no qualms about helping to cook a whopping 10,500 steaks Saturday:

Then there’s socialist 2020 contender Sen. Bernie Sanders. Last month he announced that he’s open to implementing a “meat tax” to combat alleged climate change.

“So as you probably know, animal agriculture is to blame for the majority of climate change and is the leading cause of deforestation, water and air pollution, and biodiversity loss,” an audience member said to him during an event in South Carolina. “With that being known, what do you plan on doing to ensure that Americans limit their consumption of animal products?”

“Germany has imposed a meat tax in hopes of limiting this consumption,” the audience member continued. “What are your plans to stop these large corporations from further usurping natural resources and polluting the planet?”

Sanders replied by tacitly endorsing the idea.

“All I can say is if we believe, as I do and you do, that climate change is real, then we are going to have to tackle it in every single area including agriculture, ok?” he said. “And in fact, one of the things we want to do with our farmers out there is help them become more aggressive and able to help us combat climate change rather than contribute to it.”

“So we will certainly – you’re right. We’ve got to look at agriculture, we’ve got to look at every cause of the crisis that we face.”

While there appear to be no photos or videos of Sanders flipping steaks at Saturday’s event, reports have confirmed that he did attend the affair. What remains unclear is how he felt about nearly 11,000 non-“meat taxed” steaks being needlessly cooked.

Even Biden, who was front and center at the “Steak Fry,” has expressed arguably radical views about meat consumption. In June he released his own knockoff version of the “Green New Deal,” a radical plan that calls for essentially redesigning society to stave off climate change.

The original proposal by socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for eliminating air travel, combustion-engine vehicles, nuclear energy, fossil fuel energy, and meat. While the original plan was widely lambasted by critics, Biden has praised it:

Also seen flipping steaks was Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who too has released her own “Green New Deal”:

In fairness to Sen. Cory Booker, who’s called for the whole country to go vegan, he was seen flipping only vegan burgers:

The same may not be said of Andrew Yang, a 2020 contender who’s previously suggested that meat is destroying the world and that the world’s population should go vegetarian to stop climate change.

Going vegetarian, he reportedly said at the same CNN-hosted town hall mentioned earlier, is “good for the environment. It’s good for your health if you eat less meat. Certainly, meat is an extraordinarily expensive thing to produce from an environmental sustainability point of view. So, I think it would be healthy on both an individual and societal level for us to move in that direction.”

And yet …

These examples point to the glaring dichotomy that exists and has always existed between the rhetoric and actions of Democrats. It’s as if they habitually say one thing but do another.

It all just seems so hypocritical …
