‘Hell no, you’re not!’ Woman at town hall confronts Beto on plans to take her gun

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke came face to face with a woman who confronted him over his proposed gun confiscation plan.

The former Texas congressman was speaking to a crowd at a Colorado town hall event when the woman challenged him on his mandatory buyback program which would target high-powered weapons.

“I am here to say: Hell, no, you’re not,” Lauren Boebert told O’Rourke Thursday, referring back to his “hell yes” comment during last week’s presidential debate question on whether, if elected, he would take guns like the AR-15 away from law-abiding citizens.

When Boebert recalled O’Rourke’s remarks, supporters in the crowd at the front steps of the Aurora Municipal Center cheered “hell yes!”

But when she took her stand against the Democrat’s proposal, she was met with boos and heckling, leading O’Rourke to remind the crowd more than once to be “respectful.”

“I have four children, I am 5-foot-0, 100 pounds, I cannot really defend myself with a fist,” Boebert told the 2020 contender. “I want to know how you’re going to legislate that because a criminal breaks the law, so all you’re going to do is restrict law-abiding citizens, like myself.”

“Self-defense is a right that we have that shall not be infringed in America,” she added at the event held in Aurora, the same city which dealt with a mass shooting in 2012 when a gunman killed 12 people and wounded more than 50 at a movie theater.

The 32-year-old business owner reportedly drove three hours to the event from the town of Rifle where, at her restaurant, the staff carries firearms, according to the Denver Post, which noted that as she spoke to the Democrat, “her Glock handgun was holstered at her side.”

O’Rourke declared he would confiscate “military-style” weapons from gun owners if he is elected and has doubled down on his comments in the wake of several recent mass shootings, including in his own town of El Paso, Texas where a gunman shot and killed 22 people at a Walmart last month.

“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” he said at the Democratic primary debate.

During an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, O’Rourke was directly asked if he was in favor of “gun confiscation.”

“Yes,” he replied, “when it comes to AR-15s and AK-47s, weapons designed for use on a military battlefield, the high-impact, high-velocity round that is fired from those weapons. When it comes to those weapons… the answer is yes.”

O’Rourke told the crowd in Aurora Thursday about the unacceptable, to him, the ratio of guns to people in America as he addressed Boebert’s remarks.

“I refuse to accept that” people are inherently evil, O’Rourke responded.

“This doesn’t happen in any other country. There are 329 million of us. There are 390 million guns. No other country has this kind of ratio. No other country allows its citizens to buy weapons that were designed for war,” he said. “The logic of your argument is, ‘Why shouldn’t we allow you to have a bazooka or drive a tank down the street?’”
