Only days out from having been canceled by the left over his allegedly racist and homophobic jokes, fired “Saturday Night Live” comedian Shane Gillis now faces the prospect of being cancelled by the right as well.
Why? Because during his first stand-up act after his termination from “SNL,” the unabashed comedian reportedly joked about assassinating President Donald Trump. Granted, he made the joke after first praising the president for being the funniest person he knows.
The lengthy joke began with him first talking about the outrage that his allegedly racist and homophobic past jokes had triggered among members of the regressive far-left, according to USA Today.
“It’s been weird. … As soon as they decide you’re a bad guy, you’re just alt-right now or something,” he reportedly said.
Fact-check: TRUE.
Irrational leftists have developed a tendency of smearing anyone whom they dislike as an “alt-right” white supremacist, white nationalist, homophobe, bigot, racist, sexist, etc.
The Gadsden flag is a symbol of American Badassery. Nothing more nothing less. Lay off the koolaid.

“For real, though, I did not vote for Donald Trump,” Gillis continued. “Look at me: I didn’t, but that was tough. His whole campaign was at me. ‘Are you a fat idiot?’ ‘Yeah, dude, what’re we doing?’ Trump is funny. He’s funnier than everyone I know.”
“If Trump was the next comic, he’d bury me. He’d come out and be like, ‘Fat. Loser. Fired,'” Gillis added.
And that’s when the comedian trotted out his assassination joke.
“I don’t want you to think I’m too pro-Trump,” he said. “I will say this: Of all the presidents I’ve been alive for, Trump would definitely be the funniest one to see get shot. Like, without a doubt, that’d be funny. I’m not asking for that; I don’t want that to happen, but it would be funny to see.”
“He’d be on stage talking (expletive), the shooter would be coming at him, and he’d be like, ‘Sit down.’ He’d definitely make a funny noise when he got hit. … It would be funny.”
This joke is not being well-received on social media by conservatives, some of whom have called for the comedian to be referred to the Secret Service or even outright arrested.

This idiot should shut up, as there is nothing funny in his comments. Secret Service should pay him a visit. https://t.co/rXVYKDERXP

I’d love to think that this freaking guy is already in @SecretService

Not funny on any level.
It’s never appropriate to joke about taking someone’s life. This comedian’s career in “comedy” should come to an immediate close.
Shame on anyone who sits in his audience.
BTW, making Trump a martyr would be counter-productive.https://t.co/wotH13bjBH

I’ve never heard of this loser until now! Yeah Shane …cuz Presidential assassination is always such a knee slapper?. WTH?! Not funny!

This fool is one sick puppy…but I didn’t realize SNL had standards, I figured those were thrown out the window long ago.

While their exasperation is understandable, the argument could be made that those conservatives who are calling for Gillis’s arrest over a joke are no different than the irrational regressive leftists who called for the comedian’s termination from “SNL” over his past jokes.
As a result of the left’s outrage, the comedian was pulled from “SNL” before he even had a chance to perform on the sketch comedy show. In response, pro-free-speech conservatives and libertarians alike blasted the show for bowing to the whims of left-wing snowflakes and excoriated the left for being glaring hypocrites:
Look (*Language warning):
Shame, shame, shame on @nbcsnl. A tiny bit of courage and they could have defied the mob and let this young man have the career he earned. Shame on the @nytimes and on every leftist moral midget who thinks this is okay. https://t.co/LlF6rgYKKq

Congratulations to everyone saying cancel culture isn’t real on getting Shane Gillis fired.

Just because you put the word “joke” in quotes doesn’t mean a comedian wasn’t joking. Jokes that upset you are not suddenly classified as serious statements just because they upset you. Why is a culture that lines up to watch a clown murder children so polarized over humor?
— Jim Norton (@JimNorton) September 17, 2019
Getting offended is a great prep for when you get cancer or your loved ones die. It’s great training for life stress with kids and bills, too. If you can’t take being offended god help you when real life happens.

Just wait until SNL finds out about the numerous past homophobic comments of the guy they have playing Donald Trump every week… pic.twitter.com/D8UZBr9KeR

Even Andrew Yang, a low-polling Democrat presidential candidate, agreed with this assessment.
“I believe that our country has become excessively punitive and vindictive about remarks that people find offensive or racist and that we need to try and move beyond that, if we can,” he reportedly said in a statement. “Particularly in a case where the person is—in this case—a comedian whose words should be taken in a slightly different light.”
Perhaps the same principle should be applied to Gillis’s joke about Trump? Or maybe not …
