Tanks to the conveniences of social media, porn stars can now cut out the middle man and bring their wares directly to the consumer.

Social networks are being set up allowing pornography fans to subscribe directly to the those in the industry that best float their boats.

The option allows popular adult film star actors and actresses to convert their social media following into a paid customer base, CNBC reported.

Which will likely result in a greater presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as the porn stars use these platforms to sell subscriptions.

As the network reported, the online porn industry generates billions of dollars a year in ads and premium subscriptions, and women in porn have an opportunity to steer a little more of the money their way via the direct-to-consumer business model on the web and mobile devices.

“There’s no in-person stuff to deal with,” said a porn star, who used the name Dolly. “You make your own rules, you make your limits.”

Not her real name, Dolly is just getting started in earning additional income through social media.

More from CNBC on how that income can be generated:

The subscription market is in its relative infancy and the sums are still generally modest. Dolly said she makes $500 to $1,000 a month at the moment. Part of her revenue comes through $10 monthly subscriptions on OnlyFans, which caters to YouTubers, trainers, models, content creators, influencers and makers of amateur porn. She also charges $12 a month for her private Snapchat (or a $35 payment for indefinite access), where users pay to see a person’s posts.

Then there’s the true do-it-yourself option of giving individual customers content via direct message on Twitter or providing access to a Google Drive or Dropbox folder and collecting a one-time fee through Venmo or Square’s Cash App. For example, Dolly promotes what she calls “Dolly’s Disney Fund,” where customers can pay between $5 and $100 for photos and videos that she’ll share from an upcoming trip to a Disney theme park.

In the end, it all comes down to how well the adult actresses can brand themselves.

In the past, they would have to learn how to code in HTML and paid for domain and hosting services to reach her customers, as porn veteran Goddess Tierra told CNBC. But the new social networks include all that in a virtual package.

Tierra reportedly brings in at least $10,000 a month.

“Everything’s so easy now,” she said. “You just need to know how to brand yourself.”

One such network is OnlyFans, which markets itself as a site for all types of creators, although pornography is what’s drawing the most attention.

The network told CNBC in a statement it doesn’t “always want to be at the center of stories that focus on the adult side of the business.”

The article also noted that Snapchat “is increasingly becoming an integral part of the online porn industry.”

A popular social media site, Snapchat allows users to create private accounts and the adult actresses can use the photo, video and social tools the site provides, and wall off content that they want to monetize.

“There’s really nothing else like Snapchat,” said model Ellie Boulder, who posts fetish content. “It’s so user-friendly. We’ve all gotten used to it. The clients want to be there, and we want to be where the clients are.”
