President Donald Trump trolled Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand after she abandoned her flailing presidential campaign, joking that “she was the one I was really afraid of.”
Gillibrand dropped out of the race yesterday (Aug. 28) after not qualifying for the third primary debate.
In response, Trump snarked on Twitter: “A sad day for the Democrats, Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the Presidential Primary. I’m glad they never found out that she was the one I was really afraid of!”

Gillibrand quit the race, saying: “Today, I am ending my campaign for president. I am so proud of this team and all we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.”
She continued: “Now, let’s go beat Donald Trump and win back the Senate.”
Today, I am ending my campaign for president.
I am so proud of this team and all we've accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.
To our supporters: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Now, let's go beat Donald Trump and win back the Senate. pic.twitter.com/xM5NGfgFGT

Kirsten Gillibrand’s campaign has been in shambles from the beginning. She’s not popular in the Democratic Party, and doesn’t have high national name recognition. Even many New Yorkers (the state she represents) barely know who she is.
As BizPac Review reported on August 25, friends and former top aides urged Gillibrand to quit her struggling presidential run. They expressed concern that Gillibrand might lose her New York senate seat after alienating voters with her “obnoxious” and “opportunistic” personality.
A former aide says Gillibrand doesn’t realize how annoying she came off at the two previous debates. Her unlikeability was a key reason why she polled at 0%.
“I don’t know that anyone even wants to see her on the debate stage,” said the former top staffer in Gillibrand’s Senate office. “Everyone I have talked to finds her performative and obnoxious. She comes across as an opportunist to the public.”
A longtime Gillibrand fundraiser said “this was not her time,” and that she had no “realistic” chance to win her party’s nomination — let alone the presidency.
Gillibrand recently came under fire after saying she would not detain any illegal aliens if she became president.
In other words, Gillibrand would release all illegal immigrants into the country — a terrible move that would only incentivize more illegal immigration.

Far-left Democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are topping the polls among the 2020 Democratic contenders.
However, Nancy Pelosi — the leader of the Democratic Party — has warned her fellow leftists to stop pushing radical ideas like socialism, open borders, and impeachment. Otherwise, she warns, Democrats will surely be crushed by President Trump in 2020.
Pelosi reminded her party that pandering to centrists was how Democrats won back the House of Representatives in the November 2018 mid-term elections. “Own the center-left, own the mainstream,” Pelosi said of her 2020 strategy.
The media constantly screeches about socialism and impeachment because such divisive rhetoric bolsters their TV ratings and page views.
But in reality, most Americans (even Democrats) are centrists — not radicals to the left or right. It’s just that extremists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar get the most press attention.
