The Karma Boomerang strikes again! New York Times columnist Bret Stephens joins the growing list of Trump-haters who are being mocked by leftists and fellow Trump-haters for their unhinged social-media meltdowns. Hey Anthony Scaramucci! Are you listening?
As BizPac Review reported, Stephens suspended his Twitter account after being trolled for tattling on David Karpf, a professor at George Washington University. What got Stephens so heated? That Karpf had called him a “bedbug” on Twitter.
Karpf was reacting to a story that the New York Times newsroom was suffering from a bedbug infestation. Karpf joked on Twitter that the “bedbugs are a metaphor. The bedbugs are Bret Stephens.”
Bret Stephens is a neoconservative RINO (Republican in Name Only) who writes for the New York Times and is a contributor on left-wing MSNBC. Stephens is a Never-Trumper who despises President Donald Trump and spends all his time trashing him.
A furious Stephens emailed Karpf, daring him to call him a bedbug to his face, and copied his boss on the email.
Karpf — a fellow Trump-hater — slammed Stephens, saying it was obvious that Stephens was trying to use his influence as a New York Times columnist to get him fired from George Washington University. For calling him a “bedbug” on Twitter. Talk about snowflake!
Trying to get conservatives fired for a mild insult is something the Left specializes in. But Stephens is a neoconservative, not a leftist. So of course, he hasn’t perfected the technique yet.
“With zero retweets, [Stephens] would have had to look hard to find it on Twitter, and would have had to work even harder to take offense to such an innocuous joke,” Karpf wrote on Esquire. “But what was most striking to me was that he had gone to the effort to CC the provost.”
Karpf explained: “Including the Provost clarifies the intent of the message…It means he was trying to send a message that he stands above me in the status hierarchy, and that people like me are not supposed to write mean jokes about people like him online. It was an exercise in wielding power—using the imprimatur of The New York Times to ward off speech that he finds distasteful.”
“But here’s what still bothers me as this strange episode recedes from the news cycle: Bret Stephens seems to think that his social status should render him immune from criticism from people like me. I think that the rewards of his social status come with an understanding that lesser-known people will say mean things about him online.
Stephens reached out to me in the mistaken belief that I would feel ashamed. He reached out believing my university would chastise me for provoking the ire of a writer at The New York Times. That’s an abuse of his social station.”

Fox News host Sean Hannity and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer joked that Stephens is a fragile snowflake who needs to grow a spine.
Hannity mocked Stephens, saying: “You’re in the wrong business if you can’t take a little baby bedbug tap!”
Spicer — who’s barraged daily with offensive insults and death threats on Twitter — said if being called a bedbug is the worst thing Stephens has experienced on social media, he needs a rude awakening.
Keep in mind that deranged leftists have called President Trump, his aides, his family, and his supporters the vilest, most disgusting things on Twitter and on TV. They don’t react by crying to their mommies the way leftists do.
“These guys can’t take a [metaphorical] punch,” Spicer laughed.
Spicer said it’s hilarious and hypocritical that leftists and Never-Trumpers on the right demonize President Trump and his millions of supporters every day but wither at the tiniest little jab.
Not surprisingly, President Trump weighed in by tweeting that “Bret Stephens is loaded up” with bed bugs.
Trump tweeted: “The infestation of bedbugs at The New York Times office” was perhaps brought in by lightweight journalist Bret Stephens, a Conservative who does anything that his bosses at the paper tell him to do! He is now quitting Twitter after being called a “bedbug.” Tough guy!”
