Major Hollywood anti-gun hypocrites attend B-day bash of gun king Glock on weekend of shootings

Tragic shootings over the weekend prompted a fresh round of criticism for Hollywood celebrities who were called out again for their blatant hypocrisy.

Outspoken anti-gun stars including Naomi Campbell, John Travolta, Dame Joan Collins, and Hugh Grant were among the who’s who attending a Friday party marking the 90th birthday of Gaston Glock.

That is the same Glock who is the Austrian engineer and founder of the firearms company that bears his name.

The extravagant party, held at the Glock Horse Performance Center in Austria, saw many A-listers in attendance, celebrating the billionaire creator of the semi-automatic pistol just one day before the two mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio that left 29 people dead and dozens injured.

The same celebrities rubbing elbows with the Austrian businessman, who has become wealthy thanks to guns that have been used by police as well as mass shooters, seem to have selective amnesia as they have previously been quite vocal in their anti-gun remarks.

The Daily Mail‘s Stephen Glover pointed out Hollywood’s double standard in a piece published Sunday in which he noted:

It seems to have slipped the mind of Leona Lewis, who sang at the party, that last year she inveighed against the ‘atrocious gun violence in this country’ [the U.S.].

Naomi Campbell apparently blotted out a tweet she sent as recently as June in which she reflected that ‘the statistics on gun violence in America are astounding’

Dame Joan Collins has been similarly forgetful, though perhaps more forgivably as she is 86. After the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 in which 20 young children and seven adults were shot dead, she tweeted: ‘I hate guns.’ The killer, Adam Lanza, shot himself with a Glock pistol he had been carrying throughout his rampage.

Actor Hugh Grant has apparently attended previous Glock parties, and left Friday’s bash in a Glock private jet, according to Glover who noted the actor’s “moral outrage after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in which 13 people were murdered. Then he begged America ‘to look into its soul.'”

Past photos with David Tschikof, the brother of Glock’s 38-year-old wife Kathrin, show that the celebrities have had no qualms partying with the family while spouting off their anti-gun narratives.

As Glover noted, just days before the Glock party, there was “another classic example of celebrities being indulged on an epic scale as they behaved in a way strikingly at odds with the pieties they publicly intone.”

Google hosted a three-day, $20 million climate change conference in Sicily which saw celebrities arrive aboard 114 gas-guzzling private jets and enjoy their time partying on $400 million yachts. The flights “pumped 864 tons of carbon dioxide into the air,” according to Page Six.

Attendees included the likes of Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Bradley Cooper, Oprah Winfrey, and Naomi Campbell. Even Britain’s Prince Harry attended and he reportedly flew on a private jet and helicopter to get to the island. He was slammed on social  media as his trip came on the heels of an announcement by he and his wife Meghan Markle that they would only be having two children due to concerns about the planet.

“I am as bewildered by the behaviour of these privileged people in Sicily as I am by the presence of gun-hating celebrities at the Glock jamboree in the foothills of the Austrian Alps,” Glover wrote in the Daily Mail. “Can it be that the super-rich and very famous do not believe that they are bound by the same restrictive rules as they enjoin the rest of humanity to observe? It is very hard to resist such an interpretation.”

“If you hope to persuade people to reduce their carbon footprint, don’t jaunt around the world on a private plane. If you want others to take seriously your strong views on gun control, don’t fetch up at a party thrown by a billionaire firearms manufacturer,” he added.

Twitter users couldn’t agree more.
