Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was not happy with Democrats who bashed former President Obama during this week’s primary debate in Detroit, Michigan.
The former White House chief of staff thought it was “nuts” the way the candidates on the second night of the debates didn’t aim their arrows at President Donald Trump but unloaded on his Democratic predecessor.

“There were shots taken at President Barack Obama, the most powerful Democrat in the country, because Joe Biden was his vice president,” Gerald Seib, a guest moderator on Fox Business Network’s “WSJ at Large with Gerry Baker,” said to Emanuel.
“That struck me as a little odd,” he added in the interview which airs in full Friday at 9:30 p.m. EDT.
“A little? You can strike the word a little,” a shocked Emanuel replied.
“The guy is at 90 percent favorability among Democrats. He’s the most successful, progressive, prolific president — who had an incredible chief of staff, let me just say that — since the Great Society,” he said, more than annoyed by Democrats who insulted his former boss.
“What are they doing? Every element of progressivity — from literally Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt to Franklin Roosevelt to the Great Society and forward — builds on the progress of the generations before, for generations to come,” Emanuel continued.
“This is nuts,” he said.
The more than 20 Democratic presidential hopefuls battled it out more with each other in this week’s two debates, as well as taking shots at Obama which sent many liberals into a spiral.
“The lunacy of this exercise last night was that Donald Trump’s policy positions were attacked less than Barack Obama’s policy positions,” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough ranted following Wednesday’s event. “Democrats on the stage last night decided their target should be Barack Obama instead of Donald Trump.”

“Give me a break!” Scarborough exclaimed. “What’s wrong with you people? You’re going up against Donald Trump, and you’re talking about defending ObamaCare as Republican talking points? Who is advising you!?”
Emanuel was equally confused about why Democratic candidates did not come to the defense of Obama’s health care overhaul.
“Here’s what I don’t get — and I love my party but — nine months ago, we made this the central issue that allowed us to take back the House and nine months later, everybody’s got amnesia,” the former Obama advisor said, referring to the 2018 midterm elections while appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Wednesday.
“It’s the most important thing and it’s the most popular thing,” Emanuel told Colbert, noting how Democratic voters felt about the issue.

Obama’s former Attorney General Eric Holder came down on Democrats as well for their handling of the former president’s record.
To my fellow Democrats. Be wary of attacking the Obama record. Build on it. Expand it. But there is little to be gained – for you or the party – by attacking a very successful and still popular Democratic President.

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” ahead of the debates, Emanuel had warned Democrats about going too far left. He echoed those views in a “memo ” published in Medium, warning the 2020 hopefuls not to “fall into the traps that had many of us shaking our heads during the debates in Miami.”
“If you’re going to evict Donald Trump from the White House and secure the country’s future, you have to replicate what the last two Democratic presidents did so successfully on their campaigns,” he wrote. “You need to unite all primary voters.”
