Cummings in 1999 called Baltimore ‘drug-infested,’ with children ‘like zombies’

The feud between President Donald Trump and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) just got a whole lot more interesting.

While the president is being attacked by various leftists for calling Cummings’ Baltimore congressional district “infested,” uncovered video now shows Cummings making similar statements in the past.

“This morning, I left my community of Baltimore, a drug-infested area, where a lot of the drugs we are talking about today have already taken the lives of so many children,” the congressman said during a 1999 congressional hearing. “The same children that I watched 14 or 15 years ago as they grew up now walking around like zombies.”

He added, “This is only 40 miles away from here.”

Check out the shocking video below:

Trump’s original tweet about Cummings that leftists are using as “evidence” of his racism read, “His district is considered the Worst in the USA as proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming[s’] District is a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could clean up this very dangerous & filthy mess.”

The president also questioned how federal funds are being spent in Baltimore and questioned Cummings’ priorities.

Trump’s tweet is backed up by video and firsthand accounts, but that has not stopped leftists like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi from blasting him as racist.

People like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) have made similar comments about Baltimore in the past, but the mainstream media.

The uncovered comments by Cummings only poke more holes in the “Trump is racist” arguments from leftists, and people have been saying so on social media since the video was uncovered.

“Obviously racist… Right? Those are the rules!” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted in response to the video.

“People like Sharpton and Cummings need those zombies for Federal funds,” another Twitter user responded to the video.

Another replied, “Isn’t that racist? He’s saying those people are INFESTING Baltimore? If he KNEW about it, why didn’t he FIX IT?”

Yet another said, “Wow, I had no idea Cummings was such a racist….”

And another responded, “Thirty years later with Cummings in DC representing the city, it is more drug infested, more violent and more hopeless. @RepCummings, people and country before politics and power. Do the right thing.”

The president himself shared the video. He wrote along with it, “The Radical Left Dems went after me for using the words ‘drug-infested’ concerning Baltimore. Take a look at Elijah C.”

At Thursday night’s CNN presidential debate, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) mentioned the Trump’s attacks on Cummings, but people were quick to tweet him the video of Cummings.

This is the second blow against Cummings in a very short period of time. As if to prove the president’s points about his leadership failures, Cummings refused a chance to tour a Baltimore Housing and Urban Development (HUD) facility with HUD Secretary Ben Carson on Wednesday.

Carson made clear during a press conference that Trump is willing to work with Cummings to help Baltimore.
