Former Israeli ambassador: ‘Racist and anti-Semitic’ Omar and Tlaib should not be allowed to enter Israel

A former Israeli Ambassador to the United States believes “racist and anti-Semitic” Democrat congresswomen should not be allowed entry into Israel.

Daniel Ayalon objected to plans by Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib to come to Israel on their way to the West Bank in coming weeks, telling Fox Business Network’s “The Evening Edit” that the Muslim lawmakers should be blocked because of their hostile views toward Israel.

“Every Democratic country has the right to deny entry by those who seek to destroy it,” Ayalon said. “Surely these two members of Congress show that they hate Israel, that they hate Jews – which makes them racists and anti-Semitic.”

Omar indicated that she would be traveling to the areas to learn more about “occupation” and the situation on the ground.

“I am going in a couple of weeks and so I’ll learn more,” the Minnesota Democrat told Jewish Insider on Wednesday. “But truly, everything that I hear points to both sides feeling like there is still an occupation.”

She has called for the U.S. to support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, discussing several Israel related bills at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.

“We must really address that [occupation] and make sure that as we push forth a two-state solution, that we acknowledge that and fight any attempts to stall this process and make sure that there is an opportunity for both sides to fully recognize each other’s dignity and to live peacefully,” she said.

Omar and Tlaib have been vocal supporters of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement and on Tuesday, Omar introduced a House resolution that “opposes unconstitutional legislative efforts to limit the use of boycotts to further civil rights at home and abroad,” and affirms the right of Americans to pursue boycotts “in pursuit of civil and human rights at home and abroad.”

The radical resolution compared boycotts of the Jewish state to boycotts of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin slammed Omar’s speech Wednesday, calling out the Palestinian-led BDS campaign linked to the terrorist group Hamas.

“There are members of this House who continue to prop up the BDS movement and blame Israel for all its challenges,” Zeldin said. “Israel is our best ally in the Middle East — a beacon of hope, freedom and liberty surrounded by existential threats.”

“Shame on Representative Omar for bringing her hateful twist of this reality the [House Foreign Affairs] committee and this chamber,” he said.

Omar, who was born in Somalia and came to the U.S. as a refugee when she was a child, and Tlaib, who was born in Michigan to Palestinian parents, could be prevented from entering Israel by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Haaretz:

Israeli law allows authorities to deny entry into the country by individuals who support boycotting the country. However, the Foreign Ministry has the authority to recommend to the Strategic Affairs Ministry and the Interior Ministry issuing waivers for political or diplomatic figures, if it deems denying them entry would harm Israel’s foreign relations.

The members of the “Squad” of four progressive congresswomen recently targeted by President Donald Trump, may have an ulterior motive in the plan to enter Israel, as conservative columnist and Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich suggested in a tweet Thursday.

The idea gained attention on Twitter as many weighed in on whether Netanyahu, in the wake of attacks on Trump for his supposedly “racist” remarks and of Israel’s sovereignty, would allow the radical, anti-Israel lawmakers into his country.

It’s worth noting, anti-Israeli groups are already calling Israeli spreading the ‘apartheid state’ narrative over the proposed visit:
