Trey Gowdy predicts hearing with Mueller will be nothing more than a pathetic Democrat ‘freak show’

Former congressman Trey Gowdy predicts next week’s hearing with Robert Mueller will be a “freak show.”

He also believes that not much new will come from the former special counsel’s upcoming testimony before Congress.

The former South Carolina Republican and current Fox News contributor told Sean Hannity Monday that he agreed with Attorney General William Barr who sees the reason for holding the hearing with Mueller is to “create a public spectacle.”

In an interview on Monday, Barr said that the Justice Department would back Mueller if he decided he “doesn’t want to subject himself” to congressional Democrats’ interrogation. Mueller is expected to testify before the House Judiciary and House Intelligence committees on July 17.

“Think back to March of 2017, Sean, when [Rep.] Devin Nunes had a public hearing [with] Jim Comey and Mike Rogers: A hundred times the witness said I cannot answer that question in this forum. You would think the media would say that was a waste of everybody’s time, don’t ever do that again,” Gowdy said on “Hannity.”

“They love it. They love it because what Adam Schiff and Swalwell and the others did is read newspaper articles that contain classified information only for the witness that they have to say ‘I can’t comment on that in this setting.’ That’s what’s going to happen next week.”

Gowdy contended that with his report already out, Mueller will not “deviate from the four corners of that report,”

“Republicans have got to get better at not always promising what’s getting ready to come. Look at what already exists,” Gowdy said.

“Look at what Horowitz found! Strzok and Page with a historic level of bias. You have a dossier that was used in a court pleading that was not verified. You have Steele, who was defrocked as a source but yet continue to provide information to as the world’s premier law enforcement agency, and you’ve got a DOJ senior official in Bruce Ohr who is in the chain of evidence from Fusion GPS to the DOJ,” he continued. “We shouldn’t have to promise anything else! That ought to be enough for my fellow citizens to say, ‘you know what, something ain’t right!'”

Mueller’s report concluded that Trump’ campaign had not colluded with Russians to influence the 2016 election and did not reach a final conclusion on whether or not the president obstructed justice during the investigation. Hannity questioned why Mueller had time in the nearly two-year-long probe to look into many things but did not investigate the “dirty dossier” that ignited it all.

Gowdy argued that Mueller will probably testify that that was not what he was asked to do.

“I think that’s Mueller’s out. His out on when did you know there was no collusion is going to be when we interviewed the last witness,” he said.

“So Mueller doesn’t want to come. He doesn’t want to come because he’s not going to deviate from his report. What you’re going to get are these incendiary questions about obstruction and impeachment,” Gowdy told Hannity. “You’re not going to learn anything next Wednesday that you don’t already know.”
