A new criminal case involvingĀ Florida-based billionaire Jeffrey Epstein reportedly has a familiar name among the group of prosecutors
Maurene Comey, daughter of fired FBI Director James Comey, will be one of the prosecutors in the case against the wealthy financier and registered sex offender who wasĀ arrested on Saturday on new sex trafficking charges involving underage girls, a source confirmed to CNN.
US prosecutors in Manhattan brought the charges against Epstein Saturday on alleged sex trafficking crimes that occurred between 2002 and 2005Ā in both New York and Palm Beach, Florida.

The new case against Epstein, who previously was onlyĀ sentenced to 13 months in prison more than a decade ago,Ā will be handled by the U.S. Attorneyās Office for the Southern District of New York along with its public corruption unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Comey is an assistant US attorney in the Southern District of New York, the same position held by her father before he became the U.S. Deputy Attorney General under former President George W. Bush. In her position, which she has held since 2015, the daughter of the fired FBI chief has worked on casesĀ involving embezzlement, obstruction of justice andĀ racketeering.
Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, is one of the prosecutors, according to a source with knowledge of the case.

In 2017, Comey served with a team of New York prosecutors in a case against theĀ former treasurer of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department who pleaded guilty to wire fraud, obstruction of justice, false statements and tax in embezzling nearly $6 million of fire department funds.
Comey was part of the SDNY’s White Plains office that charged a former union president withĀ embezzlement of union funds, mail fraud, and making false statements to the Department of Labor in 2016. Earlier this year, she was also one of the prosecutors in a case ofĀ racketeering conspiracy involving a gang member.
After attendingĀ the College of William and Mary where she graduated in 2010 withĀ a Bachelorās degree in History & Music,Ā Comey went on to Harvard Law School, according to her LinkedIn profile.

A federal appeals court ruled last week to unseal all the documents related to Epstein’s case, a move that could spell trouble for many of the billionaire’s high-profile friends, including former President Bill Clinton.
