Author Marianne Williamson sparked both confusion and enthusiasm during the first Democratic 2020 debates and Republicans are looking to capitalize on the quirky candidate.
The author and activist began receiving campaign donations from an unlikely source on Friday following her much-talked about performance in the prior evening’s debate.

Williamson is not only planning to establish a U.S. Department of Peace as president, she announced in her closing statement Thursday that she is “going to harness love for political purposes.”
Her eyebrow-raising responses to debate questions and her unconventional solutions to issues garnered plenty of attention for the 67-year-old motivational speaker who has no real chance of winning. And Republicans want to make sure she sticks around.

GOP strategist Jeff Roe launched an effort Friday to get fellow Republicans “to donate $1 to keep this vibrant democrat on the debate stage.”
“One debate performance is not enough,” Roe, who ran Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s 2016 campaign, tweeted.
Please, calling on all republicans to go to https://t.co/fFZ5mdLRRq and donate $1 to keep this vibrant democrat on the debate stage. One debate performance is not enough. #DemDebate2020 https://t.co/MFHWVfHXey

Roe followed up later insisting he was “not messing around” and the “future” of the Democratic Party depended on keeping Williamson in the race.
I’m not messing around. This has to happen! The future of the democrat party depends on it. Please join me!#fightformarianne pic.twitter.com/BO4vxHmsJd

Williamson provided a distinct departure from the other candidates taking the stage at the second night of the Democratic debates, including California Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Asked what her first act would be as president, Williamson said she would call the prime minister of New Zealand, “who said her goal was to make New Zealand the place where it’s the best place in the world for a child to grow up. And I will tell her, ‘Girlfriend, you are so on.’ Because the United States of America is going to be the best place in the world for a child to grow up.”
If we elect @marwilliamson, we won’t need a Space Force. We are all a Space Force, projecting beams of love into the universe. Don’t just be a member of Space Force. Be the beam.

“One of my first phone calls would be to call the European leaders and say, We’re baaack.’ Because I totally understand how important it is that the United States be part of the Western alliance,” she also said.
She lectured her opponents on all of their plans that they thought will defeat President Donald Trump in 2020, telling them that “if you think we beat Donald Trump by just having all these plans, you’ve got another thing coming. Because he didn’t win by saying he had a plan. He won by simply saying, ‘Make America Great Again.'”
Roe’s plan is to keep the fundraising and support coming in for the Democratic contender and plenty of people seemed to agree with the idea, responding with tweets and receipts to keep it going.
