Hannity mocks NBC’s choice of Rachel Maddow to moderate debate, comes up with his own Dream Team

Fox News’ Sean Hannity blasted NBC for choosing Rachel Maddow to be one of the moderators of an upcoming  Democratic primary debate.

“I couldn’t believe reading it, but it’s true,” he said Tuesday on “Hannity,” noting that the “chief conspiracy theorist” he nicknamed “Roswell Rachel Maddow” for her coverage of the Trump-Russia investigation was included in the lineup for the first Democratic presidential primary debate.

“It literally includes the chief conspiracy theorist,” Hannity said, referring to the MSNBC host who is set to be joining her NBC colleagues, anchors Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie, Jose Diaz-Balart and Chuck Todd for the June 26 and 27 debates.

“Didn’t we tell you this would happen, that the media would refuse to hold any of their ‘fake news’ fanatics accountable?” Hannity asked. “Tinfoil hat-Maddow, the single biggest liar, conspiracy theorist in the country, the person that pushed the Russiagate lies night after night after night for over two years.”

Hannity then aired a video montage offering a “small sample” from”The Rachel Maddow Show,” highlighting the MSNBC host’s version of journalism. He argued that NBC is rewarding Maddow’s “fake news” by giving her even more air time.

“You have to wonder, if you work at ‘fake news’ NBC, and maybe you consider yourself a real reporter, I wonder how those people are feeling tonight,” Hannity pondered. “How do the real reporters feel, if there are any left, being passed over for the job by ‘Roswell Maddow’ the conspiracy theorist?”

Lester Holt is scheduled to moderate NBC’s two back-to-back debates on June 26-27 from Miami, Florida. Guthrie and Diaz-Balart will join him for the first hour while Todd and Maddow step in for the second each night. Some of the large field of Democratic candidates will not make the cut to be included in the debates which are currently set to host 10 of the 2020 contenders each night.

Vanity Fair’s media correspondent Joe Pompeo noted in a report last month that The New York Times was pressing its reporters to steer clear of appearances on shows like Maddow’s and that of CNN’s Don Lemon as they were seen as “too partisan.”

“The Times was wary of how viewers might perceive a down-the-middle journalist like Enrich talking politics with a mega-ideological host like Maddow,” he wrote, referring to the Times’ financial editor David Enrich who had to cancel a scheduled appearance on Maddow’s show in May.

Hannity argued that NBC’s choice of Maddow as a debate moderator is a confirmation that the “anti-Trump, smear-media mob” is an “extension of the new, radical, extreme Democratic socialist Party.”

“They’re literally one team, repeating the same talking points, living in the same echo chamber,” he said.

But Hannity noted that the “media delusion doesn’t stop there,” as he took a shot at CNN’s Jim Acosta and wondering “what world he’s living in” following his comments in a recent interview.

“I have never witnessed a concerted effort by any news organization to take a stand one way or the other on a political issue, to damage one particular party or help another,” Acosta told Publishers Weekly magazine.

“How could one person be that out of touch?” Hannity asked as he went on to blast the ‘fake news’ networks that are now suffering a “ratings collapse” as “we, the American people, see you fake news fraudsters for who you are.”

“Here’s what we’re going to do,” Hannity suggested to his guests Sean Spicer and Jesse Watters.

“We’ll have a debate moderated by me, the Great One [Mark Levin], Rush Limbaugh, Jesse can join us, and Laura [Ingraham] and Tucker [Carlson]. How’s that?” Hannity joked.

“I’m excited that Rachel Maddow’s going to be on that stage,” Spicer replied, noting that it will expose NBC and, because Maddow is “so extreme,” that the candidates will have to “pay homage” to her. This will only end up pulling them further to the left, he added.
