Tucker Carlson pulls back curtain on George Soros, how he’s used wealth to ‘remake American society’

Tucker Carlson accused leftist billionaire George Soros of using his vast wealth to “remake” American society, more recently in the area of criminal justice.

The Fox News host targeted the 88-year old liberal philanthropist born in Hungary for his influence in justice reform, pouring funding in to back certain candidates for District Attorney in various states as he seeks to spread his liberal agenda.

“For many years, leftist billionaire George Soros has used his wealth to remake our society, American society,” Carlson said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Monday.

“His latest area of focus is criminal justice. From Texas to Philadelphia and the state of Virginia, Soros has reportedly spent millions of dollars backing candidates for District Attorney, for prosecutor. Once elected, these candidates…have ended cash bail, treated felonies like misdemeanors, and sometimes ignored some crimes entirely,” Carlson added, citing the example in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Democrat District Attorney Larry Krasner who was elected in 2017.

“In the city of Philadelphia, Soros backed Larry Krasner and the murder rate there is the highest that it has been in a decade,” Carlson said of the liberal former criminal defense attorney.

Joining Carlson on the show Monday, William McSwain, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, noted how the city of Philadelphia is “the laboratory where this experiment in Soros-funded prosecutors is playing out and now the returns are in, to a certain extent.”

He noted how, since Krasner took office in January 2018, homicides and other violent crime are on the rise in Philadelphia at the same time that lower level crimes are not being reported as often by victims who feel the DA will not follow through and prosecute.

“What Mr. Soros I think wants to do is that he wants to implement his radical agenda and he realizes that he can’t do that through the normal democratic process,” McSwain said. “Normally, if you’re going to try to get criminal justice reform you have to do it through the legislature.

“You have to get broad public support for the kind of changes that you want to want to institute. He’s taking what I would describe as an illegitimate anti-democratic shortcut by trying to purchase DA elections and then, once the DA is in place, he or she doesn’t enforce the law—and presto, you’ve got criminal justice reform,” McSwain added.

“Everything you’ve said is absolutely right,” Carlson said, noting that it is a perfect example of the “hijacking of our democracy.”

“Who’s the winner in this?” he asked McSwain. “If violent crime goes up, if more people are murdered, why would you want so-called reform of this kind?”

The “winners” in the scenarios are defendants, McSwain replied.

“Unfortunately, criminal are the winners in this story,” he said. “Mr. Krasner makes no bones about this. he’s not even pretending to be a prosecutor. He calls himself a public defender with power. It’s almost like letting a fox into the hen house. Once he’s in, he’s trying to cause as much havoc as possible – he has no background as a prosecutor, he has no interest in prosecution.”

McSwain further accused Krasner of “ramming down his radical, pro-defendant ideology on everyone else.”

Carlson called the effects “just horrifying” and warned that it is “in the public’s interest” to know what Soros is up to, even though he has “effectively intimidated” his critics.

“I think people don’t really understand the degree to which George Soros is successfully remaking this country and they should understand,” Carlson said. “Soros has effectively intimidated people into not criticizing him. It’s some kind of moral crime to call this to public attention, but it is in the public’s interest to know, and so we are anyway.”
