Former Trump attorney accuses Mueller of misrepresenting quote, calls his report a total ‘fraud’

Former Trump lawyer John Dowd slammed the Mueller report as a “fraud,” for mispresenting a quote he said in an email.

Former Trump lawyer John Dowd torched Robert Mueller‘s final report as a “fraud,” claiming the special counsel intentionally misrepresented a quote from a voicemail he left for Michael Flynn’s attorney, Robert Kelner.

Dowd says the selective distortion was a blatant attempt by Mueller to suggest that Dowd was unethically trying to influence Flynn and potentially obstruct justice.

For the record, Dowd was obligated to talk to Michael Flynn‘s attorney to discuss such matters because at the time, Flynn and President Trump had a joint defense agreement. So their lawyers were supposed to work with each other.

Flynn withdrew from a joint defense agreement he had with Trump shortly after he agreed to cooperate with Mueller.

John Dowd: ‘This entire report by Mueller is a fraud’

Dowd also warned that the Mueller report will contain other misrepresentations in a bid to drum up Democratic support for impeaching President Trump.

Dowd told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he’s glad that federal Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered the transcript of his voicemail to be released last Friday, to clear up the confusion caused by Mueller’s selective editing.

“I’m so glad Judge Sullivan ordered the transcript because we now know the truth. And we also know this entire report by Mueller is a fraud. And we’re going to find more of these [distortions].

Isn’t it ironic that this man who kept indicting and prosecuting people for process crimes committed a false statement in his own report? By taking out half my words, they changed the tenor and the contents of that conversation with Robert Kelner. It’s an outrage. There’s probably more of it.”

Mueller chopped off key portions of Dowd’s voicemail

Robert Mueller’s report portrayed John Dowd’s voicemail as this:

“If there’s information that implicates the President, then we’ve got a national security issue, so…we need some kind of heads-up. Just for the sake of protecting all our interests if we can.”

That full transcript of Dowd’s remarks states:

If, on the other hand, there’s information that implicates the President, then we’ve got a national security issue, or maybe a national security issue. I don’t know, some issue, we got to deal with. Not only for the President, but for the country.

So, you know, we need some kind of heads up. Um, just for the sake of protecting all our interests if we can, without you having to give up any confidential information.

The Mueller report redacted the part where Dowd said he wanted the heads up “not only for the president, but for the country” and that he wasn’t asking for “any confidential information.”

Alan Dershowitz: Mueller committed a ‘very, very serious’ offense

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz — a liberal who voted for Hillary Clinton — agreed that Mueller committed a “serious” violation when he truncated Dowd’s voicemail to paint it as nefarious.

“This is a very, very serious issue,” Dershowitz said. “The distortion of the Dowd quote is very serious. Especially since a report by a special counsel is always going to be one-sided. Therefore, you have to trust it. Because the other side doesn’t have a chance to look at it and show what’s wrong with it the way it would in an adversarial situation.”

Dershowitz — an international recognized constitutional law expert — says Dowd was obligated as President Trump’s attorney to call Michael Flynn’s attorney to discuss their joint defense at the time.

“What he discussed was not only absolutely proper, but obligatory for a counsel when you have a joint defense agreement to find out exactly what’s likely to be used against your client,” Dershowitz  explained. “[John Dowd] did nothing inappropriate.”
