Chuck Todd inadvertently debunks himself when he claims GOP’s ‘only’ accomplishment is ‘protecting Trump’

Far-left NBC “journalist” Chuck Todd beclowned himself Wednesday by accusing congressional Republicans of having accomplished nothing while in office except for “protecting Trump.” The problem with what he said was that he’d already debunked this fake news two years ago. More on this later.

He issued the factually incorrect remark Wednesday while speaking with a panel on “MTP Daily” about President Donald Trump’s last-minute decision earlier that afternoon to effectively cancel a meeting on infrastructure with congressional Democrat leaders.

The host’s panel of Democrat allies felt that the president’s behavior was immature — never mind that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had trash-talked him to the press only minutes before showing up for the meeting — and that congressional Republicans should call him out.

Todd agreed with this. He further dismissed the president’s outrage over Pelosi’s comments. Prior to the meeting, she had accused him of engaging in some sort of clandestine “cover-up” over special counsel Robert Mueller’s unfruitful and concluded investigation into Russian collusion.

Speaking with the press immediately following the failed infrastructure talks, the president made it clear that he’s not willing to work with the Democrats until they stop plotting against him.

“So I just wanted to let you know that I walked into the room and I told Senator Schumer, Speaker Pelosi [that] I want to do infrastructure, I want to do it more than you want to do it. I’d be really good at that. That’s what I do, but you know what? You can’t do it under these circumstances, so get these phony investigations over with,” he said.

Listen:

Todd took issue with this.

“[Republican Senator] John Kennedy, my God, he comes from a state, Louisiana, where if you refuse to work with someone who is investigating you, you wouldn’t work with anybody. Everybody is always stabbing somebody in the back in Louisiana politics,” he said.

And so because politicians in Louisiana allegedly act like jerks toward one another, the president should not create a fuss over congressional Democrats acting like a jerk toward him.

“Republicans, at some point, do they want to sit there and have their only accomplishment be protecting Trump?” the NBC host continued.

His guests nodded along in agreement.

“Remains to be seen. That’s what it’s been so far. It’s all a calculation of their own political fate. I’m a firm believer that if they think that suddenly their own careers are on the line and they might not get reelected, they’ll fully switch in a second,” one guest chimed in.

“Of course … All politics is personal, not local,” Todd added.

Listen:

Politics is supposed to be at least somewhat factual, but what the NBC host suggested Wednesday was anything but that. While he implied that congressional Republicans have done nothing but protect the president, he knows better than that. The proof lies in his own words.

During the Dec. 17, 2017 edition of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he put up a list of the GOP’s accomplishments and then remarked, “The GOP accomplishment list looks pretty hefty.”

“You’ve got the repeal of the mandate, cutting taxes by 1.5 trillion, oil drilling in Anwar, remember that one? Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. But it’s not just him. A whole bunch of appellate court judges, maybe the most in the first year of a presidency ever. And a bunch of regulations gone. If you’re an activist conservative or a major Republican donor, that’s a nice list.”

Indeed.

Did Todd forget about this list? To be fair, the current Congress isn’t the same as the one in power back in 2017. However, this point only makes the NBC host look like a bigger clown. Why? Because Democrats now control the House, meaning they’re in charge of Congress’s agenda.

Of course, this isn’t to say that the GOP-run Senate hasn’t notched a few accomplishments of its own. Thanks to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s ability to keep pushing through the president’s judicial picks, the GOP is on the verge of flipping the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dovetailing back to Todd’s remarks, it’s unclear why he’s issued no similar criticisms of the Democrats, who’ve wasted their opportunity at the House’s helm prolonging Mueller’s already concluded investigation — and this despite the American people’s preference that they stop.

According to a CBS poll published Wednesday, a 53 percent majority of Americans want Democrats to drop their investigations “and move to other issues.”

Democrats don’t seem to care, and for some inexplicable reason, “journalists” such as Todd, among many others, appear to have no interest in calling them out. Why is that?

Meanwhile, a CNN poll published at the start of the month revealed that a whopping 69 percent majority of Americans believe Congress “ought to investigate the origins of the Justice Department’s inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election.”

Yet Democrats have complained about Attorney General Bill Barr’s investigation into the origins of the Russia probe. But not once has Todd questioned them about this. Why?

It also remains unclear why Todd never questioned Democrats over the outrage they displayed after Barr testified to the Senate earlier this year that he believes “spying did occur.”

“I’m amazed that the AG would make that kind of statement,” Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said afterward to CNN.

“I think it’s in many ways disrespectful to the men and women who work in the DOJ, and it shows, I think, either a lack of understanding or willful ignorance on what goes into a counterintelligence investigation.  He almost seems to be endorsing one of these theories that has been debunked time and time again by the various, even House Republican-led, investigations trying to show some kind of resentment.”

Pelosi reportedly concurred, describing Barr’s testimony ass “going off the rails” and accusing him of acting like the president’s attorney versus the attorney general.

It’s since been confirmed that spying did occur, but it’s unclear whether Todd has ever asked either Warner, Pelosi or any other congressional Democrats about their false complaints.
