Big day for Pelosi; schedules pow-wow with president to follow ‘impeach Trump’ meeting

Wednesday is expected to be a rather wild and crazy day for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. How so? Because while she’s reportedly slated to start it speaking with her caucus about impeaching President Donald Trump, she’s slated to end it by having a pow-wow with Mr. Impeachable himself.

Fox Business confirmed late Tuesday that Pelosi has scheduled a 9:00 am caucus meeting Wednesday to talk about impeaching the president. While she personally remains averse to direct impeachment, a growing number of congressional Democrats have endorsed full impeachment:

The meeting was announced after Pelosi had spent the day denying that there’s any division in the Democrat Party over impeaching Trump, according to Melissa Francis of FBN’s “After The Bell.”

“We spent the first part of the day with Nancy Pelosi denying that there was this push and pull within the party, that she was under pressure from a big part of the party to go ahead and start impeachment. Then lo and behold, all of a sudden we heard the breaking news that she has scheduled this meeting for 9:00 am tomorrow to talk about it,” Francis said Tuesday.

Listen:

What makes the meeting particularly interesting is the timing. It’s set to occur only shortly before Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are reportedly set to hop over to the White House and meet with President Donald Trump to talk about infrastructure spending.

Complicating the matter is that the same Democrats who want to impeach Trump are hesitant about working with him, lest they hand him a potential political victory.

“While the House Democratic Caucus sees infrastructure as a possible area for bipartisanship with Trump, they don’t want to risk the appearance of business as usual with a president who is stonewalling their probes and all but daring them to impeach him,” The Hill reported Tuesday.

As usual, most congressional Democrats appear to care about only one thing: #OrangeManBad.

“People say to me, ‘How can you go talk to him about infrastructure when they won’t give us the information for the Mueller report?’ and I say, ‘I have to,'” the House speaker admitted during an appearance earlier this month on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s podcast.

And yes, Rahm Emanuel has his own podcast … (#ClownWorld).

“If we think that there’s a way that we can build the infrastructure of our country working in a bipartisan way, we have that responsibility. We can handle it. … I would be delinquent if I didn’t try to work with him to get something done for the American people,” she added.

Fair enough, right? Not necessarily.

“I do think at some level we have to be functioning as a government, obviously, while this is going on. On the other hand, it does give me some angst, the fact we’re treating what is going on around us as very normal when it’s not very normal,” Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego complained to The Hill.

The last time Pelosi and Schumer met with the president in April to discuss infrastructure, the Democrat base responded with fury by accusing the two of negotiating with a terrorist and traitor:

Will the two, especially Pelosi, face the same wrath this time? The answer may be dependent on how the House speaker handles her early morning meeting with the House Democrat Caucus. If she humors the caucus’ desire for impeachment, the base might overlook her allegedly treacherous bipartisanship. If not, on the other hand, she can expect a whole lot more of this:

In the meantime, the president has already made it clear to congressional Democrat leaders that negotiating with him will require more than some sweet words.

In a letter sent to Pelosi and Schumer late Tuesday evening, he demanded that Congress first pass his United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA.

“Before we get to infrastructure, it is my strong view that Congress should first pass the important and popular U.S.M.C.A. trade deal,” he wrote. “Once Congress has passed U.S.M.C.A.,” he added, “we should turn our attention to a bipartisan infrastructure package.”

Like noted up top, Pelosi is slated for a very wild and crazy day dealing first with her impeachment-hungry caucus and then with the tough-as-nails president.

Good luck, lady. You’re going to need it!
